… unless you are running them with tubes.
Oh, I’d say don’t buy them at all. I’ve got a pair of babyshoes on my sweet fixie and they are pretty underwhelming. They’d be worthwhile at Nomad prices, but are not at Jan prices.
What’s a good alternative then? Are nomads all wire bead? I’m interested in 35 - 44 mm. I got some Gravel king SKs the other day that look turdly as.
If you’re interested in tubeless, don’t go for Nomads (they are wire bead, and yes I was curious and I couldn’t get them to seat tubeless.) I wish I could tell you which gravel king is worth anything, but there’s a dizzying array of them that’s filled with surprise clunkers :-(
Yeah, I’m not interested in tubeless. I’ve been deep diving thru tarc and the docs and am not seeing an alternative to his Heiness’s stuff but the NZ dollar is so shit my Runnyarse days are over. Felt lucky to get the turdly SKs for $46 nz. I have had very good wear out of my Runnyarse stuff tho.
I think the 700x38 and 650x42 smooth GKs are supposed to be the good ones. Apparently the 48s are all turdly and idk about any other sizes.
I’ve been very happy with the Ramfarts. Pretty lightweight and tubeless’d up really easily. The 700x38s versions are nice, too. I’ve been poking Teravail to make a 26x2.3 for a bit now. Maybe?
Second the “tubeless’d easy”, but my 650*47s weighed more than the Byways they replaced ~550g each iirc.
This is a tire that should exist.
The Maxxis Re-Fuse is like a tubeless Nomad.
Pretty cheap, durable as hell, comes in a bunch of sizes, very tubeless compatible, heavy and thick.
Hutchinson overide 700x38 if you can do with a little tread. Nice tires. Better than 38 SKs on paved and hard pack, SK edges out ahead if there’s any loose dirt or gravel at all. Similar to exposure 34, more squish, less cornering noise on pavement. May be a little faster than Exposures, but I have them on completely different bikes so I dunno.
This is going to be my next commuter tire.
I commuted on them for a year or so. It’s a perfectly fine tire.
When I ran them with tubes I’d get mystery slow leaks and flats constantly (I’m not light and I ride around NYC where the roads–well and many other things–are worse than in most third world countries). If that were happening to me now that I just expect my bikes to work, I would’ve set them on fire. I would never ever run the EL versions without sealant, so that it can plug the constant small cuts the tires accumulate.
I’ll poke 'em, too.
Thanks, I’ll write this stuff down this time. Will hunt down the 38 gravel king slicks and maybe try some Refusers for another option.

650x42 smooth GKs
Can confirm these to be good ones.
im riding 1 650x38 smooth GK (tan sidewall) and 1 parimoto, theyre the same tire but the GK rubber is significantly turdlier feeling.
can’t compare to much tho cos i was running 700x28 on this bike before

What are the Paselas like? I got some 32s for my buddy when I got my SKs and the sidewalls look quite thin. I can get the 35s for about 46$
Never had paselas.
Only comparable tires I’ve had to the above were run with tubes.
