True to size on an Easton R90 rim (i19 I think).

Raced them the past two Tuesdays in the local crit series. 45psi was a tad low. 50 felt amazing.

What do you think the problem with the Venture is? Compound? Tread pattern? Seems likely it’d be the same carcass as Horizon/Byway.

It’s funny, they felt kindof bad the first 7-10 miles but definitely broke in and became something wonderful.

Only problem is this… the bead is really big and boxy which was problematic mounting on a Light Bicycle carbon rim. However, the center channel of the rim was built up some to play nice with some Compass tires, so it may be a non issue. Too early to tell.

100% tread pattern.

Who else on here rode early no-sealant tubeless setups? I had some Mavic Crossmax UST rims (no spoke holes) and Panaracer Fire XC 2.4 Tubeless tires.

It actually worked just fine and I got zero pinch flats.

But then folks started using sealant just to be sure, and as puncture protection, and the mfrs realized they could lighten up the tire casing if they specified that sealant must be used. Tubeless was dead, Tubeless Ready was born.

I did. Same deal. Same Panaracer tires on some Mavic UST rim brake wheels. 2003 maybe? Eventually got a puncture and added sealant. Never looked back.

Anyone know why WTB decided to clad the bead on the Horizon with this flimsy canvas bullshit? After a couple dozen mounting/dismountings and a few years, the tires have probably 5000+ miles left in the tread, but both died from fatal bead blowouts within a couple weeks of each other after the canvas strip protecting the bead peeled away from the tire casing (see photos). Do they still do them this way? Why??? This shit now puts the G-One speed head and shoulders above the Horizon in essentially every regard.

I’ve never had this issue with other tires I’ve had for longer and taken off the rims more frequently. I’ve also never seen another tire that glues a strip of canvas onto the bead instead of just molding rubber around it. Do you know why they would do it this way?

My point is that no tire is truly designed to be repeatedly mounted and unmounted. Especially not tubeless tires. That goes double for anything that is designed to be remotely ā€œsouplesseā€. But, what about changing a flat? How many flat should a tire be expected to endure under its normal service life? Certainly not more than a dozen. I have seen this same issue on WTB tubeless tire and I’ve seen it on other brands as well. It constitutes misuse shartmo. I think it’s fair to say that tubeless tires are really designed to be mounted once and removed when they are compromised.
Beads stretch or otherwise get damaged when abused.
I keep used/damaged tires around for setting base tape on rims and the bead usually gets worn out or otherwise damaged from repeated install even using a pedro’s lever gently.
