No idea what’s actually the right call… but this seems to work.
I am switching to Stan’s on these new MTB tires because I want to try the dart and Stan’s is much cheaper than orange seal
Huh, never compared the pricing before. (numbers via Universal Cycles)
Orange Seal Original 32 oz: $34
Orange Seal Endurance 32 oz: $32
Stans Original 32 oz: $28
Stans Race 32 oz: $39
My favourite tyre ever (Schwalbe Almotion TLE 26x2.15) has been discontinued and I’m somewhat convinced that there are no comparable alternatives on the market (and that there may never be again). I’ve managed to locate one of the last remaining sources that I can see online and I’m ready to put in a big order.
Am I nuts for wanting to spend 850AUD/600USD on 5 sets of tyres? Given that they’ve been lasting me around 2-3 years so far that’s at least 15 years worth, though I will be splitting them with my bb, who rides much less than me. How well do tyres last in storage? Have any of you hoarded tyres like this?
The reason for my fixation with these is that my favourite/most loved bike is a 26 dead ender that I intend on riding for a very long time
I’d get an extra set, and see what’s available in half a decade when you need new tires.
So, I’m leaning towards not going tubeless on whatever road wheels I end up getting (enves are still on B/O and I can cancel them if need-be). My teammates are having so many problems and it’s seems like it is just not worth the hassle on the road. 5000s + latex tubes should give me 98% of it. Or maybe it just those schwalbe pro ones? IDK. All the big names in wheels are going hookless/tubeless-only, but reynolds still has hooks. If I decide to go that route, it will be reynolds 58/62 x. 100g weight penalty over the 41mm depth versions seems worth it to me.
I know tubeless 26" touring tires are a wasteland but a) I wouldn’t want to ride tires that have been in storage for more than maybe 5 years (no science there shartmo) and b) as cynical as I am, I do think there will be another option SOMEDAY
have you contacted Schwalbe to ask what their suggested replacement is?
Q: What tires should I get to replace this outdated discontinued size?
A: A new bike.
Sorry not sorry.
Given the sheet numbers of 599 erd bikes out there, you’ll be able to get tires forever. It will be like 630 or 590 erd though: a few profoundly crappy options.
If you’re gonna ride pro ones, why not ride them tubeless? They’re great tires.
Come to think of it, if you’re gonna ride any modern tire/rim combo hat are you even thinking?
I’m not gonna ride pro ones. I’ve seen 3 teammates go through all of 10 tires in like 3 months. We have generally good roads, but it’s a desert and there’s usually a good amount of rocks, glass, thorns in the road that destroy tires. IDK man, I know people that have ridden tubeless for years without many issues and then there are others that just seem to be plagued with problems.
Riding solo you can usually avoid it, but throw in even one other person, and you’ll miss some stuff.
Anyone get their hands on the FMB clinchers, ahem, Open Tubulars, yet?
That is crazy. I wore a rear pro one down to the threads before it got its first flat.
Hi friends,
Looking to swap out my 650x47 Ramparts for something that gives more traction on stuff like this
Basically pea sized gravel over dirt or just dirt. Preferably not too slow on pavement either because I ride to the trails.
I thought about going back to Byways, or maybe trying the WTB Venture? Also recall thunder butts were popular last summer. Any other suggestions?
Vittoria Terreno Dry
what would you do with more traction on stuff like that?
What’s the current good milk for squirting in tubes? I’ve been using orange seal endurance because that’s what was around, but have way more tubed than tubeless so open to other options.
Thanks, imma try those.
Only 3 avocado toast per tire!

For example, when the stuff like that gets bendy and twisty, I’d like to be able to turn the wheel and have the bike follow, and not end up off the side of the path, down the grassy bank, into waste deep pasture drainage.
Hypothetically speaking, of course.
