Park tool torx 3 ways are terrible. But also a contributor to the problem is the button head torx bolts used on bikes, predominantly on stupid 6 bolt hubs. They engage maybe like 2 mm of the tool, which compounds the self destruction of the tools. They need a lot of torque too
The Birzman T25 is surprisingly durable.
i’m guessing bondhus- they make their l shaped allen keys
Sounds like I don’t hate park tool because I’ve never used their torx or allen wrenches.
I have a set of these beautiful babbies:
And here I was thinking I was a clever little lad for having bought the Bondhus Torx set over the Park…
Wait, is this tire chat?
I’m going to be building up a coffee grinder and I’ve got everything figured out (not really) except for tires. I’ll be running wtb i19 hoops and yet to be determined fenders. What’s the biggest I can shove in there? I’ve got 34mm wtb exposures on my other bike and I’m pretty happy with them for commuting that involves a little gravel. Should I just get another pair? If not, I think I’d like something with similar or less tread and similar casing.
Teravail officially announced 650B x 40 and 47 Cannonballs, as well as a 29 x 2.8 Corronado. Probably not Compass-level supple, but based on my previous experience, stupid-easy tubeless setup.
Sorry, should have specified 700c.
Teravail Ramparts or Pana Gravelkings?
I’m under the impression that a CG maxes out at around 700x35, but I could be wrong?
And hey if you aren’t running a dynamo hub you should buy my 650b wheels for maximum flexibility!
Swoon
The 2.8 Coronado looks raaaad
Anyone have any comparison of the suppleness/rolling resistance of either the schwalbe G-one 650b x 50mm (the one with snakeskin/v-guard) or the teravail rampart 650b x 47mm to the OG Horizons or the Switchback hill? I just discovered Jan mothballed their industry discount program and I have little interest in spending $180 for a pair of bike tires, so I’m trying to get as close to that level of suppleness as possible without breaking the bank. The G-One in that size unfortunately has the snakeskin, but snakeskin is relatively supple and I expect it to be better than the panaracer stuff they put in the Gravelking 48. The Horizon is a little too brick like, and the panaracer is worse, because they moved all the stiffness from the tread to the sidewall. It seems like all the manufacturers agreed to only make stiff commuter tires in this category about 500g+. Supposedly the teravail rampart doesn’t have the puncture belt like the panaracer, but it still weighs as much as the Horizon, so I’m curious where they’re putting all that weight. Talk me back from the edge before I replace my horizons with liteskin Thunder burts and shave all the side knobs off
This has been driving me nuts for a couple of years now. FWIW snakeskin Burts weigh the same amount as standard Switchback Hills. Can’t think of anything else. EL Switchback Hill actually weigh 400 grams not 420.
I will be running a dyno, as soon as I can buy that through axle Shimano jawn.
I’ve seriously considered your wheelset but I really like 700c. Plus I’m getting a pair of wtb 700c i19 hoops with the frame so not really ready to try anything new.
Maybe I should try sipping that road plus kool-aid?
We were like 5 posts away from transitioning to pants chat and you had to come along and get us back on track. Thanks a lot bud.
Every thread is always 5 posts away from pants chat.
Tires are basically pants for your wheel, now featuring zippers:
