for anyone that’s still on the fence about road tubeless - this 32mm gp5k sealed up by itself without plugging once I removed the screw (it had been pushed all the way in). Maintained ~60psi and I didn’t even have to pump it up afterwards. Orange seal endurance btw
Last night I needed to take off my gp5k for trainer duty, throw shitty giant stock tire back on
Decided to fuck it, threw tube in. Pinched it, went flat very quickly. Pulled tube, said fuck it, pumped up my charger, fully set the bead in 1 blast, no prep. Added orange seal, pumped up with hand pump. Pretty sure it was quicker than fucking with the tube originally.
Things are about to get wild at Bicycle Rolling Resistance.
Dear BRR Pro Member,
This is a monthly update to let you know about the new articles on our site and the results of the voting system.
…
Here are the winners of last month’s voting round:
- Rene Herse Snoqualmie Pass - Casing Comparison (Standard, Extralight, Endurance)
They’re starting to test grip as well.
Somehow made it this far into bike shop life without staining clothing with sealant.
How do I get this stupid stain out of my pants!?
Are WTB mtb tires known for fragile sidewalls? Just tore my second on in the last few months, one Bronson and one Trail Boss. Both rear.
The original light/fast casing is a touch less durable than Maxxis EXO casings. The new light/fast SG2 is more in line with EXO. Maybe a bit tougher.
The tough casing is burly not quite DH casing. But pretty heavy duty.
Anecdotal tire comparo from my weekly Sunday off-road gravel-bike ride. Me on my 2 inch Specialized fast traks and my buddy on his Runny Arse Juniper Ridges. The Juniper Ridges always out-roll me on the road, every time, but off-road in the wet grass descents and rocky slippery stuff I was all over him. Possibley I had the advantage with 160 rotors over his smaller 140s and my tires a tad wider.
Nice
I’m sure this has been discussed ad nauseum upthread but I wasn’t paying attention. What’s a good 2.6" mountainburk tire, preferably tan wall.
This may have changed but after 2.4" mtb tires get kinda weird. Very hit or miss. You could maybe start with Teravail as a brand? Though people have been having issues with their durability, right? Schwalbe has some tanwalls (nobby nic?). Specialized (except it is Specialized)? This looks like it rips, though it is appropriately narrow for aforementioned rippin’: https://www.specialized.com/us/en/fast-trak-2bliss-ready/p/172032?color=266608-172032&searchText=00120-4042 Almost 1 lb heavier per tire : https://www.specialized.com/us/en/butcher-grid-trail-2bliss-ready-t9-soil-searching/p/218683?color=355821-218683&searchText=00121-0092
What kind of conditions? Hardpack? Loamy? Loose-over-hard? Rocky?
Mostly gravel and hard-pack dirt, both very steep, some rocks
Teravail Honcho 2.6 tan wall should work well for you
Maxxis Rekon also comes in a 2.6 tan wall if you want less pronounced knobs
Yeah, I feel like over 2.4 you get into width of footprint vs. knobs. Maxxis Ikon in 2.8 is great, 2.25 was meh in my experience.
I also have not had good experiences w/ rocks + tan walls, but I ride like a clod.
Seconded.
Old frame would fit 650b x 47 as the max comfortable size. 2.0" Maxxis race TT would fit but rub a little in use.
New frame has more room, 2.1" even if they’re a little oversized should be fine. What 2.1ish 650b mtb tires are ideal for underbiking local single track on a gravel bike?
Thunderburt is probably still the best despite adding a bit of chonk since earlier versions. The Pirelli Gravel M and H both come in a 650x50. A M front/H rear would be pretty cool.
Updated Simworks Homage 2.2 seems neat. We just got some in, but I have not mounted any.
Bontrager XRs had something, I think the XR-2?
Maybe Mezcals for something knobbier
