Souplesse Casings and Bike Soup - The Tire Thread

It hasn’t happened in a while, but I’ve had a tire or two not seat well becuse it got bent too sharply while folded for sale and shipping, the bead took a kink that was not easy to work out.
Seems like an occasional dud issue, exacerbated by wider tires not needing the kind of pressure that irons things real flat real fast (25mm road tubeless really really seats when it seats)

Need to deal with this same issue myself with DTHs on VO Voyager rims.

So it turns out the reason Tarck no longer rides bikes is because we’re all bump-bump-bumping along on our unevenly-seated soupful souplesse nerd tires.

I’ve definitely had dud tires in the past. Sent them back.

i have had a problem with g-one speeds being lumpy as well!

I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the 700x30 G ones I’ve been riding for a few hundred miles.

Vastly different from the schwalbe blizzards from days of yore

Got the DTHs seated with some baby powder on the tubes, probably an inadvisable amount of pressure, and maybe a small amount of lung cancer down the road as a treat.

new carbon fiber-laced tire milk from Silca: https://silca.cc/products/ultimate-tubeless-sealant-w-fiberfoam

Was thinking that it was bullshit marketing wank where one just adds carbon fiber to a thing and calls it better. May still be, but:

Mr. Poertner gets all science-y on it in a way that sounds appealing.

I’m ready to be hurt like this again

New tubeless valve stem, comparable to the Reserve Fillmore. Really happy to see creativity in this area of bike design:

Does tarck have any options re IRC Boken vs Maxxis Re-Fuse? I’m looking for options to replace a set of 650b x 47 Ramparts that are surprisingly the noisiest tires I own and feel turdly.

I have ridden those as well as Maxxis Receptor and Vittoria Terreno Zero… it order of (perceived) efficiency from fastest to slowest…

Boken
Receptor
Terreno Zero
Byway
Horizon
Re-Fuse
Rampart
Washburn

Teravail copy pretty much calls out that they are designing their tires to be tough first and supple second (even when labeled supple)

This is great feedback, thanks. The Re-Fuse being between the Horizon and Ramparts atyo makes me want to skip them.

The Re-Fuse feel like riding on velcro, but I’ve never gotten a puncture with them. I rolled over a half-broken beer bottle with barely a slice in the casing.
