Souplesse Casings and Bike Soup - The Tire Thread

Vittoria Mezcal or Maxxis Aspen maybe? I never liked the Ardent.

Bonty XR-2 maybe, comes in 2.0 and 2.2

It is crazy how well they roll on the road. But off road, anecdotally speaker, they seem to be less grippy than other non culty tires.

I used the Mezcals for extreme poop barning and they are weird. They feel a bit wandery. Very robust tho. 2.3s when I think about it. Maybe the 2.1s would be less vague.

I quite liked the 2.1s for general multi-terrain fuckery and bikepacking use. Durable for sure, felt like they rolled fast, and no weird transition onto the shoulder like on a Thunder Burt. Vittoria’s using great rubber compounds these days.

Almost twice the tire it used to be

The hole would just not seal. So after 2-4 years in the stash…

was that your RH tire that kept weeping sealant and not dying? It’s finally done?

They’re not holding air for very long, hopefully because of the pinholes in the sidewalls. However, I was lazy and didn’t change the tape when I swapped tires. Sigh.

always change the tape

I see splotches out of pinholes and from the bead area in places so still hoping the tape is ok.

So you’re still at stage 1: denial

Seems every ride on my liteskin thunderbutts results in plugs or putting in a tube, they’re just not robust enough for where I ride and how I ride. Are the thicker cased TBs worth investigating or should I just give up on them in favor of something different?

Edit: I think I have a pair of WTB Rangers kicking around in the closet that I’ll likely throw on, but curious what other options are out there in the 27.5x2.0/1 sizeways

Any idea how they are supple-wise?

I think I have one on the front of my derpin around bike. Rolls okay.
I’m a big dude, not really an acolyte of the supple life.

yes the snakeskin Thunder Burts are definitely worth using

more of the speed/grip collabo is from the multicompound rubber than the casing, and the snakeskin for XC tires is still reasonably supple
