What’s the current good cheap tire for 26" with tubes? I’m talking like $20-25 here. My go-to in this case would be to put together a big Bike24 order and get some cheap Big Apples but I thought I’d see what else is good first
Tioga Powerblocks
Looking pretty out-of-stock online. Are the wire bead ones good?
$20

Oh cool these do look kinda fun
I have them, they are good, especially for the price
I can’t get my 55 mm Runnys to seal for shit and I don’t know where the orange seal is going.
First I put about a quarter of a bottle in each tire, inflated, everything snapped in nicely and then I did the Stan’s dance. Flat in 2 days. Then I put in half a bottle (yes) into each tire and they are still losing air faster than I’d expect.
I’m beginning to suspect that after accounting for the gallon of sealant needed to seal the sidewalls of these fuckers these tires are going to end up heavier and stiffer than competitors
Have you done the soapy water (aka, bubble) test to see where the air is leaking?
It seems I’ve left my bottle of sealant in the barn over the winter again, and it is proving basically useless come spring again. Guess I’m buying another bottle.
What size bottle?
I guess that would be around 6 oz per tire (2 oz first time, 4 oz second time)
Just put a tube it. So much angst with folks trying to get their tires to seal.
Do the soapy water in a spray bottle. There can be good sized pinholes in the sidewalls and you might have to take the wheels off and place them on buckets so they can be horizontal overnight.
Both bikes (WTB Byway and Spec Roubaix Pro 32) got big, unpluggable cuts in the tread in the last few weeks. Both bikes got the dental floss treatment (for now). I’m going to try Teravail Ramparts next, will report back.
Love your work!
Pinholes should seal pretty quickly. I’d wager that the tape might have a puncture or be out of place over a spoke hole. Valve stem area can also be very touchy. I often need just the right amount of torque and some careful tape puncturing over the valve hole to get it to seal well.
Those are all possible but something about the Panaracer molds (and the huge surface area of the RTPs and AHs sidewalls) makes them not want to seal.
The soapy water should narrow it down.
I had a shitty tape job once that leaked into the non-welded rim. Several Oz of orange seal is now in the rim cavity, but it sealed up!
My compass tires drink sealant like nothing else but 6 oz in 2 days is extremely excessive.
