The Rivendell Rage Reader: A thread for the pure joy of hating on Grant P

first one who dibs can have my XTR for shipping cause it doesn’t fit right in the drawer.

I bought a rapid rise XTR last year maybe and have just hadn’t had the motivation yet to mess with it.

But for real they do take up a lot of space in the parts bin.

I tried it a long time ago and it messed my head up too much to apply tension at the shifter and have the gears get lower. Couldn’t get used to it.

Dibs

You can send it with the dvds

But seriously dibs

helps to have it on a bike where the shifters are already peculiar to you

that way you get the “upside down and backwards” effect

I’m fat and slow I kinda like that I have to pull on bar end shifters to get to lower gears with top normal. Keeps the shifter lever closer to me. Feel like I would get tired if I had to bend over all the time and shift the gears at the other end of lever travel

Would a rapid rise also act like a natural clutch to quiet chain slap? Or would it exacerbate it?

I think it would have no effect

the parallelogram doesn’t usually move when you go over bumps

Visited some friends last night and noticed that one of their mint unused 26er mtbs had the flippy floppy brake/shifter things, and i think they came with the backwards dangler. Ive never used those controls altho I saw a hydraulic pair in the coop this week.

Worth a try, I think you might like them. I’ve said before but one of the keys to them is to take the time to set up the lever angle and reach properly, it really helps.
