what?
I did not get the summer program that was gonna fund Ditherer So.
Hydro 11speed group for Coffee Grinder
Move 10speed ultegra onto commuter bike so that it might actually shift.
Maybe true the wheels on my commuter bike… maybe.
Get new panniers? Or a sugar loaf?..
Also:
36T chainring for SS MTB
Rigid fork
1.8 tires
and call it a cross bike.
also also:
wolf tooth remote
replace the 3 year old cable on my gravity dropper
You’ve got an El Mar, right?
yeah
Kenda Small Block 8
some burts, mang. I think I’ll go a little at a time. Really play with the tire and see what knob differences feel like. I’ve been telling myself I’ll use this thing more than once.

I’m dithering about buying a Wolf Tooth lever for my too short, outside-routed cable derper or pony up for a 150mm+ internally routed one.
I’m totally satisfied with the dropper itself so the remote makes sense
I’ve only heard good things about them.
I love my WT remote. It’s one of the best bike-related things I’ve purchased in a while, after hydro dicks.
Chiming in, I bought the Race Face lever because 1) purple ano, DUH and 2) my dropper has the cable end at the lever, and it’s hands down the best upgrade to the bike since the actual fucking dropper itself
So, Ive gotta replace my stolen commuter, Insurance is paying out 1900 which is rad and kind of absurd and Im real grateful.
Current though it this (999 retail) with a basket and swift basket bag.

Not sure if I will hate the aluminum or not… but it would be sub 25lbs and I imagine will ride like quicker vintage MTB basket bike.
That leaves me with some $$ left over that I can use on other bikes or on some machine built tubless wheels for this ^^.
If I wanted to stay on steel I could do a Salsa Marrikesh or Fairdale Weekender, but both are gonna be heavy and the added utility is… maybe a weekend camping trip?
Or I could jump up to the 2000 - 2300 price point to get a steel disk brake thing like the Kona Sutra.
OR I could use the money on a hunter dither frame/wheels and then commute on my coffee grinder until I can take deliver and build it up (which I wouldnt be stoked on waiting for) Also that would leave me with no real lock up bike…
Is the Sutra really that much? I thought they were around $14-1500.
The Dew is pretty rad though and a good candidate for basketlyfe.

do this
if you want the tarck budgeting committee to build a dream ditherer within your price range just type the words
i know the feel about lock up bikes - but i also know that you can get cheap pieces of old raleigh/schwinns on craigslist for $100
First thought: Sleep on it. For a week, if not two. Think about what you really want.
My youngest brother is looking at bikes and I went to the LBS and rode around on the $400 Trek flat-bar commuters and they are… not miserable? You can tell it’s cheap but it seems totally doable. You can always replace the tires and maybe the crankset down the line. The $600 one was even better - carbon fork, nicer frame. It’s very comfortable! I can’t imagine you get significantly more value for your dollar until you bump over the $1k price point for Tiagra or BB7’s or Cane Creek 40’s.
My vote:
-Downgrade your $999 Commuter even more, to a $400-600 flat bar commuter; there’s your lock-up bike.
-Get a frame/bike you’re excited about, and invest over time. Enjoy the build process. Get a hunter/ditherer and some nice wheels and slowly get the rest of it.
Get something you’re pumped about, something really fun. My opinion. Doesn’t sound like much fun to blow your budget on an almost fun commuter.
