I’ve always been kinda skeptical of using the frame as the power return. While the idea makes popping a wheel back in sound easy it also seems like its more trouble than its worth considering the lights still need to connect to the frame. Bunch of single wires + ring terminals still required.
- It’s not that much trouble to cut the ground short and solder in a grounding lug.
- Some taillights (at least the Seculite; it’s really annoying that the Secula doesn’t) and headlights (eDeluxes) already ground to the frame.
- It’s much easier to thread one wire through the frame than it is to thread two of them.
- You could always hire a framebuilder to make you a SL fork with the actual SON dropouts.
Really? I just measured the B&M wiring they ship with most dynamo lights and…
double: 1.5mm x 3mm
single: 1.5mm x 1.5mm
Is 1.5mm added to the diameter really making life more difficult for internal wiring?

That’s why all of my dynamo wired bikes have external wiring. Easier to install/maintain/replace wires, fewer places for dirt and water to enter the frame. Cut a few zip ties if you need to disassemble the bike for travel or maintenance.
The double-conductor stuff does not like to bend sideways, and will cheerfully ball up into a solid plug. And a single wire can be fit through a 2mm hole in the fork or frame, which means I can pull it through a vent hole in the NDS chainstay.

Unsure of super slack seat tube, for the foot down while seated crew? Ride like shit? Or would you just not notice if the bars are in the right place.
Those Benno bikes look interesting but most of the decent ones are about 1 bong so I’d rather build something up that’s a little less risky for geometry. I’m guessing those are super high trail with such a slack headtube and all that rake.
I agree with Russ about this endeavor but when taken in the context of all of Squirrel’s fancy bikes it sort of makes sense.
If you want a lock-up bike that doesn’t completely suck, I’d just get a Craigslist hybrid and put the VO security skewers and maybe a IDC dyno wheel on it

the Ixon Space has an entirely novel system with a spiral bayonet mount
you spin a ring 90° on the mount that cam-locks the light down onto it
