I made this little adapter today so I could hang a non Huret derailleur on my Motobecane.

I kind of wish it wouldn’t have worked because I was waiting to see if I could make this work before making a decision on cold setting the frame from 120-130.

There’s not really a downside apart from a little risk from actually bending it, but I still don’t know why I’m so hesitant to do it.

I was very hesitant to cold set a frame for the first time, going 126 to 135 and put it off for like a week or two. When I finally did it I was like holy shit steel bends easy huh.

I ended up respacing it this weekend.

Used a piece of allthread to spread both sides at the same time like I did with my Trek 710. This one didn’t fight me as much as my Trek did - I think I only had to spread it to about 160mm for it to spring back to 130.

My Trek I had to take to 180mm or so.

Found a picture of the Trek:

Dithering level: Maximum.

  1. Garage sale trying to clear out a bunch of stuff and just ride the bikes I already have instead of hoarded sweet parts and half finished projects.

  2. Person at garage sale alerts me to wednesday-night go-kart track racing. I immediately start mentally dithering a specific bike for this sport which I have not participated in yet. (and which of course everyone else appears to just ride whatever normal bike they have).

I would definitely build up a goofy 3 speed with ape hangers to go-cart race with that crew. Looks like a blast.

That looks fun as hell

Perfect use case for a Haro Dart.

Rescued this abandoned garbage tier Peugeot today. Will be donated after a tune up. Love the name though, no idea how this extremely euro bike made it to Hobart

Got a Fairlight Secan as a grabbelbiek, and I thought I knew how I wanted to gear it, but I have no idea. It’s not even a weird build, I just don’t know. Is 50/34 11-34 going to be way overgeared with 40-45mm tires? That’s the most “parts I already have” setup. In theory I guess I could go small road tires on the 700c wheels and fatties on the 650b.

The real breakdown is that I have a Force 1 group on the Ritchey Breakaway, and a Rival 22 setup lying around. I hate having a front derailer on the BA, but maybe it’s just time to switch to 2x. For some reason 1x has no appeal to me for gravel.

I’m a fan of 46/30 11-34 (or 36) for grabble.

I’m running a Croder crankset with their 46/30 and it plays well.

I feel like the Secan is right on the border of justifying a 46/30. If you’re going to ride it off-road with 40+mm tires most of the time, go with the 46/30. If you’re on roads more than half the time and running 32mm tires…46/30 is still fine, but 50/34 may feel more natural.

48/32!

Jk I don’t have this on anything. Mostly the Braden gearing.

Short crank 38/24 and smaller cassette

Thanks for mentioning them, they have a paired 48/32 round ring for Shimano road cranks (still have my recall Ultegra set) that I wasn’t familiar with.

I may also try a cues 46/30 or 32. I wind up needing wider q anyway, so I’m curious how they would shake out for me.

Can confirm that the 2x sram red/rival shifts into this with an MTB front der like a dream.

Broke down and took the Endpoint apart so I could have two unassembled bikes. I think I’m committing to 650 grav grav since these 2.25s are the same gear inch as 32mm 700s, which makes the 50/34 slightly less absurd. I’ll go smaller as needed later. Front derailer is tiiiiight to the tire. Having a monster truck is pretty cool though
