Weird Build Dithering Thread Infinity: Part 2

I thought mounting to the bottom of the front rack next to the tire but forward enough to avoid wheel shadow was the one true way.

This is what I did on my commuter and it is delightful.

Samesies

This dude also abides - what I have currently on the :pig2: steel fork.

But the appeal of the plastic fork dither is no rack :scream:

so I guess back to this

The guy who made my bass clarinet case does custom carbon fiber cases. I wonder if I could get him to glue together some tubes to make this.

Or I guess just buy some tubes and thread and epoxy myself and see what I can do in my backyard. What could go wrong?

Maybe a simple 3 point mount like this (to back of fork crown)

But then I may as well have a rack :man_shrugging:

What is the rationale for not drilling that hole all the way through?

If they did, then you might put a rack on it.

How long would those two arms be?

Ponoko can laser cut 1/8" aluminum and they have a hub in Berlin. Or maybe it’s a sandwich of 1/16" aluminum with acrylic or delrin in between.

I did something similar, but more of a hanging mount.

it’s gotta be pretty far forward for the wheel shadow to not be worse than side rack

Here is a possible formed sheet metal version. Could definitely be made one piece, and a lot better looking, but this is a start and would be easier to make yourself, and/or would fit in a smaller area if trying to nest it with other parts.

I’m going to try and make a version for 3d printing, because I think that would be a good challenge and I haven’t worked on something fun and product-y in a while.

Shit.

How about one of these?

Gives you a vertical hole that’ll take an M6 bolt for the fork crown mount. I did a quick mockup of the idea:

Now this is podracing dithering.

Or, hear me out, get pokes with a crown hole on the front.

Or put it on a fender and don’t take the fender off.
