dSogn! I miss the one I had, it was fun.
design by committee
Headtube has integrated rusty stack.
This one was less committe designed, IIRC. Normal tubes, high trail. Still a weird 650bx2.2 disc drop-bar frame at a time when that was very rare for anyone non-custom.
Bike adjacent dithering q, is there a strong opinion on tarck as to the pros and cons of the type of workstands which cradle the bb and clamp at the dropouts (with one wheel removed)?
I am dithering about upgrading to a proper workstand (to facilitate more dithering obv) and that type seems at face value to be more stable vs the ‘clamp a tube’ type…
It’s designed around 650b, no?
atmo those are great for rim brake road bikes. almost anything else and i want the ability for both wheels on
Well all of the bikes in our household are technically road bikes. I can see that style being annoying with mudguards as well but am attracted to not having to worry about things moving around at the front.
I was looking at one of those last year before I got back into the feedback sports folding tripod normal clampy stand. I own 2 now, just one is 5000 miles away.
IIRC Tarck lobbied pretty hard against the version you are describing largely because of fenders, additional BS of removing wheel, and adjustment needed for bikes of different sizes.
If those don’t apply to you, and the smaller storage footprint is a benefit, seems like a good solution to me
I believe so, but extremely untukt, in that it can also fit 29x2.2.
On a dithering note: Thunder Burts are the real deal in terms of road/dirt use? Might get those for this if the Byways ever die.
Is that Canti Lightning Bolt the closest thing to a Radlawn Nord these days?
It’s probably better in some ways.
I’d really like something a little bit nicer for occasional mtb’ing than my Fat Chance. On the super cheap I’m thinking about taking this old c’dale frame and adding a cheap ebay fork and a group.

or
(or box nine prime four 8 7 6 5 whatever)
and some nonseries shimano hydros.
What I really want is a Marin Pine Mtn 1 but can’t swing it, but dithering on a build will doubtless get me within spitting distance of that by the time I’m done.
So I keep dithering and not spending money.
you would be making an artisinal dept store bike but it wouldn’t be that cheap
just make sure the Jalopnik Cimarron guy holds your beer while you do it
That fork does not look like a good thing to buy
That fork is probably not worth the money. The drivetrain deal is probably fine.
At the end of the day, though, I’d rather have a more modern bike with more modern geo. I have a hard time believing that that Cannondale built up with those parts is going to better than a Fat Chance.
Even with bigger tire clearance, better brakes, and a suspension I think you’re right. Y’all are all right. I’ll stick to fire roads and calm descents until I can swing a proper bike.
alright tarck, help me dither on bars
I’m installing RS-685 shakes soon and considering trying one of these instead of my Cowbells. both are flat top for ideally a nice position at the bend where I like to ride. stem is just a counterweight
the 3T is significantly lighter because cabron and has a nice position deep in the drops, but the drops are deeper and straight
the Zipp is flared and is similar to the Cowbells that I like, plus the flat swept tops, but it’s a heavy bar
I have always found Zipp bars to be very agreeable, despite the weight penalty. The shapes work well for me and they seem to ride well and comfy, but bars are one of those things I feel like you gotta experiment with.
with rs 685 I’d definitely use the Zipps, and I’m pretty sure that you won’t notice the 50-100 gram weight difference when you’re riding.
