Stridsland is stocking some 94 bcd nw rings pretty soon. The only question is what colour to get. Leaning towards the gold, black would be the boring choice.

Here’s a shartq I like to ask occasionally, how long do these aluminum 1x rings last when a heavy dude uses them for commuting?

I want to switch my road bichael from a standard crank to a compact with the eventual goal of going 46/30 or 48/32. my BB is GXP and the local coop has 2 GXP compacts, a rival and an oval 520. any idea which one is better? the rival crank arms feel lighter, but if i get the ovals i can flip the praxi$ rings (52/36) on ebay
Rival is definitely a tad nicer. The Praxis is basically the same as an Apex crank. Look to see if the Praxis has the little machines areas on each arm of the spider that allows for the use of their 48/32 rings. That could be worth it.

Going to put off the idea of getting a modern road bike for a while and am going to build up an old Allez (I think?) frame I have. Basically going to take everything off my bianchi except use CK threadless headset and a 1” surly fork I’m hopefully going to replace. Things I should probably spend money on: killing the DT shifters, new fork and new wheels. Spending money on tubeless rim brake dead ender wheels is going to be the hardest part. Keeping this thing 8 speed is going to make it a lot harder to make me want to spend any money. I should have jumped on the Mavic Zap boat to keep me motivated. Will a Ritchey comp carbon fork clear 28mm? 30mm?

Whoa, strange timing. I was going to post this thing when I got better photos (seller photo, not my garage door) but… I’m probably going to be pulling off the Avanti group that’s on it for some cobbled 10-speed stuff. All I know about Avanti is that it was somehow below Mirage but the PO barely used the bike (original 23 year old tires and all.) You can have the shifters, rear derailleur, cassette and crank/bb if you want it.

Oh shit! I’ll take any of that you want to sell…don’t need the bb or crank but if you want to sell it together I could find a use for it.
Which ~$50 rims should I put on the Telekom so it doesn’t hang in my cellar unridden forever. If I’m lazy its rear will wind up getting swapped onto the cargomerckx when I ride that too.

Tell me about the crankset
A pretty standard Miche 52/39, not sure of the length…nothing fancy given the rest of the components. I’ll post more when I start disassembling the bike.

The Abandoned Litespeed build is coming together, having finally found a cheap silver 9/8ths headset for it, pedals, and ordered the rebuild kit for the Marzocchi Bomber on it as well as a rigid carbon fork to bop around on.
The next step for the thing is replacing the mismatched coda/specialized crankset, which puts another couple forks in the road ahead of me. I could keep the square taper BB in there as it seems to spin fine and I don’t want to fuck with it, but I’m afraid that a cheap Deore crank nearby won’t clear the frame – my Cimarron has similar cranks an a 117.5mm spindle while this Litespeed only has a 110mm.
If I’m buying something interesting, I could drop $110 on M950 cranks, either this one with the original triple spider or this one with a weird replacement. I could even pretty easily 1x them with a new spiderless ring, which would be fun if it cleared the frame. Both of these are bad ideas, but at least entertaining ones.

that Deore crank: assuming that’s an FC-MT60 (struggling to think of any other 5-arm crank that just says “Deore” on it), yeah - it was originally spec’d with a 122.5mm BB spindle. Works nicely as a narrower-Q 110BCD double if that floats your boat, but the chain line will be pretty messed up if you try to use it as a triple with a 110mm BB
the M950 cranks: are you really ready to embrace the octalink lifestyle?

I love the idea of narrow Q but I’m afraid of interference – maybe for $40 it’s worth giving a try and not the worst thing to have in a drawer if not.
I know absolutely zilch about octa and assume it’s just another dead end format totally abandoned except for a few random options. Or is it actually bad news?
