Weird Build Dithering Thread Infinity: Part 2

mostly just a dead-end format. Important to note that the FC-M95* cranks are all Octalink V1, while the few Octalink BBs that Shimano still manufactures (BB-ES300, BB-ES51) are Octalink V2, which is completely incompatible. So if the crankset doesn’t come with the matching BB, you’ll also be chasing vintage BBs.

Get the XTR with the 5-arm 94bcd spider, remove small ring, run as a 44/30 double on a 108mm spindled V1 octalink BB.

The deore crank comes with a bb just buy that. And even if you want a new bb they are only $20 for the un700 or whatever the new Shimano one is

the other easy/boring option is to scoop up a Sram X7 42/28 on super sale and get a BB30 for it SRAM X7 BB30 Crankset - Level Nine Sports

nope. english threaded frame? bb30 spindle is too narrow for external cups

wait really? I thought BB30 fit on old frames like these. I always stared longingly at this Cimarron with X7 cranks but I have no clue how any of this modern stuff works

bb30 is 68 road or 73mtb but the bearings are inside the shell. so you’d have at most 5mm of spindle to fit cups around. bsa30 is longer spindle so it can accommodate external cups

would this work with those cranks? or nah SRAM DUB BSA Bottom Bracket 68mm English | The Pro's Closet

yeah terminology around 30mm spindles is about 12 kinds of fucked up.

basically, you need a crankset with a longer spindle that expects ~86mm over the outside of the bearings, in order to use a 30mm spindle with threaded cups in a 68mm shell (or 91mm on a 73mm shell) - just like Shimano’s Hollowtech bearings are set up. With a BSA threaded BB shell, you can’t use a 30mm-spindle crankset with a shorty spindle that expects the bearings will be inside a large-diameter 68mm or 73mm wide shell

DUB != 30mm. It’s completely it’s own thing, DUB BBs only works with DUB cranks. No-go on any cranks that call out BB30, PF30, 386/392EVO, blah blah blah

I almost guarantee you that’s a GXP (24mm spindle) version of the X7 crank

these two couplered bikes will be making a big appearance in here soon. I originally thought i wanted to keep the Trek and give the Shogun to a friend, but now, seeing them, I think the Shogun might be the better travel bike if it fits. They need a lot of cleaning. it looks like the tire clearance on the GROUND BREAKER might not be satisfactory for travel. Probably going flat bar/ alt bar on both.

Gathering parts for the CG build. I’ve never run Campy and have only worked on it a few times.

This cassette is a damn work of art

I’m a campy hater and ekar is cool AF.

In weird build dithering, I’m thinking my minimalist ice and snow fixie needs dyno lights. I hope I can control myself and keep from also getting a front rack and fenders.

Thanks for the offers dudes, I have a few dyno hubs already. Probably going to get whatever cheap Alex is in stock at Q and lace them up with whatever spokes I can find in the shops bike dungeon.

What are decent cheap lights? @drwelby, didn’t you find some alibaba lights that were decent?

I have this guy. Very decent

Wait time on ship from China might not make feasible.
