the problem with the risers was that the bars weren’t far enough forward. stem was slammed with the risers, popped it back up, scooted my saddle forward a hair, got my levers back out front so I can stretch out… bingo, way more comfortable. yes I acknowledge that I should be on a bigger frame than a 58, but the drop doesn’t bother me. it has 5" to 5 1/2" of saddle to bar drop, surely some people have more?
I swapped out CycleTruck bars.
Goodbye Soma Oxford black bars.
Hello Ahearne/MAP black bars.
Surprising similar bend but I really like the Ahearne/MAP bars. Still need to trim the cables. Might need slightly shorter stem.
Side by side comparison photos for those interested:

Fred is taking his Berthoud saddle back (fucker) and making me buy my own.

There’s a lot to love about the Berthoud, but the corking effect on a new saddle is not one of them. I cannot stand it. Fred assures me it’ll blend out. It feels great, but looks bad man.
Do the new versions have significantly thicker leather? I heard rumor of this.
Eh, hard to say. I love love LOVE the ability to completely detach the leather from the rails. Makes it far easier to apply proofhide (or in my case saddle soap and mink oil). And it does feel good, even new. I’m just eager for the color to work out.
they’ve always had pretty think leather
maybe it’s thicker now
just got my new Berthoud Galiber, might ride it to work tomorrow
Almost done with this, just need a fucking quill so I can do the cables and tape the bars. I think the fenders look good, should I have gone black?
That is looking pretty promising. No, silver fenders were the right choice.
Agreed on all accounts.
That’s looking pretty kick ass GT.
I say the slammed threadless adapter feels good man
feelin this
Put a new front tire and some fenders on the old Rockhopper, hopefully I like it since that lot cost me more than I paid for the bike! New commuter should be rad.
[quote=Blakey]Replaced the stem, bars, levers & shifters, got my Shimergo on. Chorus 11 to Shimano 9 (8 mechs), works perfectly, stoked.

Holy shit! This thing is awesome!
WTH - picked up a pair of long reach brakes (57/75mm) for new Schwinn project and grabbed the only set of 700c wheels I have to see how it’d all fit.
Legit (but need to shave canti-posts off)
Zero clearance - what the hell.
I can’t even use the brakes up front - the pads are as high up as they go. Those are 28mm tires btw - there’s no way I could go bigger up front and still get a fender in there, but skys the limit in the rear.
This was already mullet frame - different dropouts on the fork than the frame, also caliper brake up front, canti in the rear. Now this. Alarm bells are ringing Willie. I do axle to crown measurement - 375mm. Pretty short. With the wheels on I put a level on it - sure enough, top tube slopes down slightly. Argh.
Only conclusion left - fork has been color matched but did not come with this frame.
HY - talking with my friend and framebuilder Alex, he has a new naked fork he’ll sell to me on the cheap. Axle to crown is 388mm and will rake it to whatever I want, but has one already raked to 62mm and drilled for caliper. Will fit 35mm tires with fenders. BOOSH. Low trail big rubber 700c, here I come.
Will ride it naked for a bit and then have bosses put on for racks later.
Should definitely have your f builder throw on some canti studs.
Today I got a little silly on a tabletop and landed flat over the other side missing the transition. Bent a spoke in the front wheel all funny even though the wheel still seems round and ok.
That was pretty cool. Now I need a new spoke though, which is wack
And don’t forget to ask for advice on which batrape colour.

This little video about how bolts loosen was kinda more interesting than I expected. Dial your nerd up to 11 before clicking on the link though.
Silver fenders didn’t work, but pink fenders do by Tysasi, on Flickr
I took advantage of the ebay heads up on 35mm pink Cascadias, but didn’t know what to do with them. I did know that the silver fenders I used to have on the midlifecrisismobile weren’t going to work anymore, so I’d taken them off, and I thought that why not try these pink fenders to see if they’d fit (and paint them if they were hideous.)
Well, they’re not hideous. Perfect, yes, but not hideous. I will, however, have to mount them in such a way that I can easily remove them when summertime comes and I do a same-bike comparison test between Nomad 28s and Nomad 35s. But summertime is a long ways away.
nah, it’s pretty hideous.
