What did you do to your bike today?

You’re just jealous because you didn’t think of it first.

You know, it’s a bold direction to go, but I think it works. Fuggit.

TAF APPROVED

Yo. I built up some sweet wheels for my Boulder.
Rear: 105-5700(black)/TB-14
Front: SP PV-8 Dynamo(black)/TB-14(Radial lace cuz F-U)

Coming together. Still needs lots of work.

Needs more spacers!

Prob gonna get less. Sorry.

Another fender and rack day at Chateau Chaos.

I’d like to say these are Honjo fenders, but they are actually from Velo Orange by Tysasi, on Flickr

I befendered the Murray Baja Experience! with an old pair of 700c hammered V-O fenders that used to be under the midlifecrisismobile (and which didn’t fit, thus making them available for this machine) and were rolled to fit 650b wheels instead. I also brazed up all of the fiddly little bits of the rack for it, but didn’t actually assemble the rack because I’m not exactly sure how I’m going to mount it (the Murray does not have very much in the way of useable rack/fender mounting points, so I ended up having to break my “don’t do anything to the frame” policy by drilling and tapping a couple of holes in the fork.)

Every bicycle needs a front rack (unless it’s an xtracycle) by Tysasi, on Flickr

My eldest son’s Kogswell, on the other hand, does not have any shortage of front rack mount points, so I finished his rack and mounted it on the bicycle.

I also raised the seat on the midlifecrisismobile about an inch, which made it far more comfortable. I need to get a -17° stem to give me another cm of drop as well, but that’s a project for another day.

Holy shit! Those fenders are worth like 3x as much as that Murray!

Julie bought the Baja for $5, so even if you say that the crappy tires, wheels, handlebars, brakes, and shifters (all of which have been thrown out) came free with the frame they’re worth 10× as much.

The worst is yet to come, though; When I got the Archetypes for the midlifecrisismobile and went to black hubs that put my SON28 out of service. As soon as I make my next spoke order to Danscomp, guess which bicycle is going to get it?

is it one of mine?

Only if you give me a bunch of money for the hub.

hmm maybe, but i also like the fact that my current (on the GT) generator hub shares its branding with a microwave you can buy at walmart, among other small home appliances

unless there’s a schmidt SON food processor that i’m not aware of

Hub + bladed spokes + heavy rim/tyre for momentum…

Awzum.

Picked up the frame and fork. Mocked it up with some 28s. Bros, this bike is gonna rule.

:bear:

Did some maintenance today, and some sanding of the carbon.

Where you get big Trek 1500?

It was at the Madison swap last month. I was eyeballing it and walked around for a while, came back and it was gone. Saw it on CL today for $225. I offered $160(price I saw at swap) and he took it. He did mention he made some profit so he must have negotiated at the swap. It’s a 63cm.
