What did you do to your crosscheck today?

I’ll be the JA to admit I tossed my sticker plate in the parts bin, and i’m :100: positive mine isn’t supported by the frame.

i’ll look closer next time i’m downstairs, but when I setup my FD-5701 I couldn’t figure out how that support screw would ever get close enough to contact the frame (with adjustment). I assumed it had something to-do with using the problem solvers braze-on mount, but it’s equally likely I missed a few steps.

That little plastic cover broke off mine too at some point last season.

I rode my Serotta today.

From a stiffness standpoint, I think it makes less difference in the new linkage front pushers, but on the long arm ones it’s noticeable.

It can make a difference with aligning the front derailleur as well though.

Two for two on bikes today on the stand that didn’t have it set.

Set up a Yaw derailleur for the first time the other day. Kinda clever and actually shifts really well. Sorry

my main beef is i usually start setting them up at 10:30pm and that’s not a good time to start that. once set up they are fine and don’t need much attention atme

Quick ride today. Hit a couple of hills and got this:

1st top ten on a segment I didn’t create!

Turns out there’s 6 people who have times on the segment.

That’s what I expected. But then I checked and there’s like 700. Which, for Seattle, means no one ever rides that way.

Those 700 are accumulated point83 rides over the years.

Picked out a saddle for a bike I am long term loaning to a buddy. He gave me one of his own bikes more than 20 years ago, my yellow Geoffrey Butler. The bike I am giving him was actually given to me by another buddy, a Peugeot PX10. I’ve restored both of them. It’s cool to give back. Neat stories behind all of them.

Huh, when I load up “segment explore” on the desktop site it doesn’t show up when I zoom into the area. Wonder why?

No idea. Maybe strava’s new riles make the segment explorer more limited? Only shows segments with a certain number of rides or something?

Segment explore/search is awful.

It’s crap beyond explanation. Always has been.

I think my favorite feature is the sheer randomness of the segments it shows. Want to zoom in on one segment? Too bad, try these other 5 that you don’t want.

So I am giving my PX10 to a buddy for a long term loan and I decided to take my Brooks Swift titanium saddle off first. I bought it new online for some piddling amount as I think the packaging was damaged. Like 100$ NZ. So I found a saddle to swap it with, an old leather Concor. I threw them on my scales, the Concor was 46 grams lighter, 358 grams vs 404. I didn’t expect that.

Swapped the campy Strada crank (54/42) for an old slimline Durace 53/39 cos my buddy is a unit. Replaced the spds with toe-straps and took a link out of the chain. Chain-line is arse cos crank profiles different.

Bye bye Pooh go.

I slowly started preparing the mtbros for the summer, gave the Stanton a quick wash.

Did some material removal to accommodate the 42T ring on the day/ruiner. Took 2mm out of the pusher slot and 3mm from the band. That lower scribe line on the band is 5mm, which probably would be fine as well. It was just easier/faster to take some out of the slot. Still plenty of room for the cage.

This was a lot more work than expected to fit the smaller ring, hope it’s worth it.

I’ve been thinking about this a bunch lately.

Why the hell is braze on even a standard at this point. A tweaked variant of low direct mount would be a huge improvement on so many levels.

Especially when you take into account all the hacks Sram/Shimano are using to try and brace the pusher in a way that it doesn’t flex or slip.
