he’s got downtube shifters he can follow his heart
and modern longer cable pull is counterproductive there

I’ve always wanted one of these
That generation of Dura Ace was so fucking pretty.
IMO, the last good looking DA group.
A former coworker had the 25th anniversary group.
Those are purty. Do they ALL have road rash, or just the ones on eBay?
I’ve got the standard cage version of that. I think it was on my buddy Sams bike when he was killed by a badly-specced white line. Very cool style to it.
I spent half a weekend swapping bars/shifters on my Hardtail 26er, put the Sram red back on it and swapped the v-brakes back to Xt’s from no names. Realised that your average bike shop does not know that Nokon inner cable is a different diameter than normal cable so that was a learning for me. Unless Nokon just made their liners more narrow.
Getting closer to operation 2x for the Open. Gerrard and Andy’s shitty little port under the BB is a real PITA, to the extent that I have given up on the idea of full length inner. Will just use liner segments and have faith that my new Wheels mofo BB will be a doddle to remove compared to the plastic sram ones. I would probably finish it off tonight but I have family staying, so nope.
Maybe some day I’ll buy a nice new group of matching components
But that day ain’t today
Man, I hear you. I just bought the dangler and traded jimmy a bike frame for some shakes.
For some people, its just not their reality. Its not mine, besides, wheres the challenge of not knowing if its all gonna work !
your struggles with the open are a bummer for one of maybe 3 production bikes I’d ever want
Its probably just me, I’m a luddite at heart, and don’t like to admit I should have gone with the custom Ti Triton with external everything. Its 100% love hate. I love riding it, but also I am a massive tinkerer, and its more difficult to tinker with. Maybe removing your BB to change a derailleur cable is the norm these days, but if its not, I would buy the “other” bike next time. Apologies for all my bleating on this forum about it.
no, it’s important to hear these things especially dumb moves like the BB situation. tarck is about complaining during the dither
I feel like the Open is for people who pay the shop to do it.

I hate to think how many times I have redithered my bikes into already predithered formats, with close to no change. I have a new iteration coming for the 26er tho. Sram Red shifters.
Right hand shifter, rear gears.
Left shifter, dropper post.
3x sram shifter on a Pauls Adapter for drop bars, 3x crank.
This is “my wifes bike” but she rides a couple of times a year… so if I give her lower gears and a dropper post, I will increase her confidence a truck-load and she may ride with me more.
Added dither points. Cable break-away doofers so I can swap out the controls from drops to flats in a trice, so, that is 10+3+1=14 clicks.
100% . Dentists. And they are all running di2 or AXS. Its almost a bit like. Dude, you bought the wrong bike. If you cant afford di2, get a Surly.
Or a ritchey, the surly for dentists.
Hey!
No, wait, that mostly checks out.
I’ve got some 7700 and 7800 in my parts bin. Keeping the 7800 pusher for a weenie build some day. If anyone is actually interested in the danglers and maybe a pusher I’m happy to trade for other nerd parts or ???
Went on a good ride. 40 miles on the rigid mtb with 5 miles of mellow mtb trails in the middle. Feels like a good workout.
[edit] forgot to add that I got a flat 5 miles from home. I’d been doing pretty good since setting the tires up tubeless. Wasn’t totally dead, so I pumped in some extra air. Found the hole, but it didn’t seal up. Happy that I’d lugged a big ass 29er tube with me, I popped off the tire to put it in and discovered that there was no liquid sealant and only a little bit of dried stuff on the tire. I guess I missed that step when installing the tires the first time. Oh well. Got the tube in and rewarded myself with a take-out purrito on the way home.
I installed my Wheels mofo BB last night with my rudimentary BBB BB tools. kit. It was a doddle. Obviously the actual front derailleur cable rubs on the outside of the BB, as it was only once it was installed that it shifted vaguely correctly. On closer inspection I was gutted to find that after it’s visit to a new LBS (to have the press-fit BB bashed out) that they had lost the little cable exit guide from the rear of the chain-stay, and its an expensive OPEN item. Suck. Dont really want to pay $35 Aus plus shipping for new one. I think I wll purchase the sockety type tool for the Wheels mofo BB too, as the ring spanner only has a limited area of engagement due to the fat chain stays.
