Ordered a dropper for my sweetoffroadfixedhybrid.
Took all the crap off my XTC and put it on the cdale flash frame. Bottom bracket stuff all went well. BSA life is sweet. Will take it all off and replace with some hydro flat bar brakes in the near future. Probably entry level stuff unless I can get a hell deal on something fruity. Big DOHs last week when I realized that the sram gripshift 10 speed I had been saving for years and I was going to use, turned out to be 2 speedā¦
Put the fenders back on, now that rain is back in the forecast. I also put a MTB chainstay protector on to quiet the chain slap.
These peacocks were not impressed.
The Katu got dyno lights with low effort brackets. The front light might need a new bracket. It clears the fender, but might not allow the light to angle up enough for proper beam pattern without hitting the basket. Waiting for it to get dark for a test ride.
What wheel didja build
Cleaned it and put the new Ultegra cassette and not-Ultegra chain on.
I had just set the work stand up in the front yard of my building and I was eating some cupcakes when some guy riding past stopped and said I looked like I might know about bikes. I nodded and asked what he needed. He told me his internal gear belt drove deal wasnāt shifting well. I threw it up in the stand put it in 4th, lined up his little dots for him and taught him how while I did it. He thanked me and rode away. Feels good.
Hero.
You should have taken a picture of his bike so we could tell him why it sucks
Itās a Rhyno Lite on an Alfine S501 hub from Braden. I had a cheap hub and a rim to build something myself and completely lost motivation.
Some dude on FB was looking for Durace 10 speed shifters so I took the ones I had just put on the Flash, off, and sold them to him for 165$. Put sram Red and a NOS X0 non-clutch derangler on the back. Rode it to work with the Antelope tires and my B-17 on this morning and it felt really good. I do love that saddle.
So the sweet 730 square taper cranks jimmy sent me a while ago had some taper issues. Either from being thirty years old or from me not installing tightly enough (maybe both?).
But some major creaking and rocking in the NDS arm. Wasnāt too worried, could always get new ones (one of the reasons I like square tapers) but while aimlessly googling the issue came across a post from janny boi where he states you can āreformā the tapers of aluminum cranks by essentially tightening the shit out of them.
What did I have to lose? I did it. I carried a wrench around everywhere I went and tightened the crank bolt after every ride. For six weeks. I tightened the ever living shit out of that thing.
And you know what? It worked! The NDS arm is no longer coming loose or creaking or anything. Iām not removing it until I replace it though, and I wonder if it will crack.
V2 of my bike mounted seltzer can pinhole camera. Way better than the taped and zip tied selfie stick. Light bracket bolted through the can, at that point I can attach it to pretty much anything. Right now itās a disc adapter and handlebar bottle cage mount thingy. Less bouncy and in the way than the narwhal of v1. Iāll probably ride this for a few weeks/month and then pull the negative out.
Didnāt strap the tires on my rack, so I saw my trials bike tumbling down the road. Was only going 30 and didnāt get run over so it couldāve been much worse.
Ugh shitty
Damage report?
Correct.
The bars were turned and a brake lever bent. Was worried about the bars being bent, but they seem fine.
Good thing it was a bike meant to take drops as be crashed and not my road bike.
Yeah I donāt think any of my wispy bikes would like crashing at that speed
Rode my bike to my dentistās fence. A very transitional build as I think about what hydro flat bar brakes to get. Right now the BB7s are great. Iām not sure how someone with short legs gets so much seatpost on a M frame. Looks goofy as hell but is real comfy for a 60 min commute.
Iām starting to come around on mega wide drop bars
