What did you do to your crosscheck today?

Removed lots of important parts from the roadbiek. Felt strangely good. Cleaned up all them parts in prep for packing and shipping.

Went to convert the day/ruiner to tubeless, pulled the tube out of the rear wheel, realized how messed up the tape was from The Great GP5K Mounting Struggle, and put the tube back in. Maybe another day. At least no broken tire levers this time.

Finally got around to putting these grips on.

  1. zip ties the first, worked pretty well!
  2. tried no zip on second using a sanitizer wipe. 2 inches in it stopped going and had a hell of a wrastle to get it off. Repeated with zipties
  3. cheapo thumbies mounted downside on even the slightest curve became untenable. Swapping it to inside lever would fix except these are EXTRACHUNKY and they rub on the thumby.
  4. said frig it and put the thumbies on top, but swapped out the screws with some bolts I salvaged.
  5. removed kickstand

I’m curious. How much tire does it fit?

I had a set of Michelin Pro Race 3 on it a while back that measured about 30mm. No problems with those at all. Clearance was tightest at the front because the dual pivot front Athena caliper didn’t really play well with the wider Archetype rims. That caused the arm with the pinch bolt to drop down closer to the tire. Different brakes would be able to go a bit bigger.

I tried adjusting it via the plastic sleeve but it did not hide an adjustor! So I had a plastic tube dangling loosely on the stand that I couldn’t affix.

I replaced my CN-HG701 chain today after 2800 km when the chain checker finally hit 0.75. I might have been able to run it a bit longer, but I have some big rides planned for the next month or so. That ended up being about 8 months of gritty riding.

I was trying to mirror what Adam Kerin did in his chain durability test. Granted, I was putting out an average of 70 W less than the test rig had. But, I hit roughly the same length before the chain got too stretched.

Now to see if I can find any more in stock.

i put a new chain and fresh tires on my friendpoint. now it doesn’t skip gears anymore. i wish 11sp chains lasted longer.

Did a short (9 miles) trail ride on Sunday. It’s gonna take me a while to get used to shifting with my thumb for down- and up-shifts. ADVENT seems to shift slightly slower–and with a more tactile feel–than Shimano (SLX, XT). Will be interesting to compare 10s chain lifespan compared 11s.

I replaced the ā€œbigā€ ring on my coffee grinder yesterday and it convinced me that when the rings on my hunter gatherer go I am just going to swap to 1x11. I got the chainring on the grey market for cheap… but at retail a single ring costing 80% of the price of the entire crank is dumb. I guess in a 1x system all that cost is pushed onto the cassette… but… seems silly.

I don’t know how much goes into SRAM licensing, but I agree it’s kinda silly.

I haven’t looked in a while, but a singlespeed ring and chain guide was almost the same price as a narrow-wide.

Oh, Im talking about one with ramps and pins, like 175$ for a ring…

Was able to push through and ride a bit. Nothing spectacular, but a couple things I hadn’t done yet. At this point there’s more miles on my trials bike that all the others.

Made the surprisingly difficult decision to leave my Shawver in the garage at my folks’ place in Wisconsin so I don’t have to drag a bike up here when we hopefully come to visit every other weekend this summer. Didn’t even ride the thing this weekend. I was too busy baby proofing the damn house.

Rediscovered that I actually listed to @JUGE_FREDD years ago and told IF to put the fork rack bosses in the correct spot.

Basketlyfe is eminent.
