I helped set up a buddies dingle for a tour he did of japan. It was real fun crunching the numbers for the ratios and it really worked well. Only really had to loosen the sliders to swap the chain over and not really change the wheelbase.
Workmate gave me a pile of old crap and im trying to think was to do with it. I can use the mallets on city beater/commuter bikes as I can ride with bike shoes or civilian shoes with them. The dopey XTR crank has stupid BCDs. 102 for the middle which is probably the main one I would be interested in. I read where someone opened them up a couple of mm to fit 104. Dirty hack but im not gonna pay stupid money because shimano are twats, unless anyone has a cheap source?
Wolftooth makes a 32T 1x ring for the M960 crank, and Blackspire makes shifty rings in a few sizes. Ain’t cheap, though.

I finally got the Evasion built and took it out on a quick neighborhood shakedown ride before a Zoom meeting. Pretty fun bike but I may have to swap bottom bracket spacers around to get a better chainline, it feels pretty awful in the lower gears. Got a little camping trip planned in a couple weeks and I’m pretty stoked to ride it.

swapped carbon fork for a surly ogre fork, flipped the stem right side up, tilted saddle back a bit and added @Orc rack and wald.

i scooped a set of those xtr cranks on ebay recently pre-jeffjones’d. luckily came with a blackspire ring. So far options for new ring are as mentioned, WT or blackspire. There was another company called Amber bikes that also made them (euro based, also CNC rings: https://amber-bikes. amber bikes)
I’ve also seen a few where people just have someone with a little milling experience open the BCD to 104 on the same 102 holes.

I bought a pair of those that are driving around in a dhl truck right now that need to come to my house so I can try them on and immediately send them back because I didn’t mean to by roadie shoes
so far I feel like they are “ok”. I picked them up “opened box” from amazon for $30
