What did you do to your crosscheck today?

Replaced the seat post that has been wearing holes in my bib shorts. I figure since the replacement averts the premature death of at least two pairs of bibs, I could splurge and spend a katu on a nice carbon post. It’s got 5mm more setback and the clamp is nicely chamfered.

Also an overdue chain and cleat replacement.

I decided to take the 9s SLX dangler off the CX bike and put it on the Cannonmuter, bolted it on and attached the cable and it ran up and down the cassette no worries.
Put the 105 dangler back on the CX bike with a wolf toot dangler lengthener (forgot I bought this many moons ago), ran a new cable through the Ultegra shifter without messing up the bar tape and it seems to shift pretty well too.

I never touched a limit screw or futzed with cable tension and they both shift better than the 4 hour ordeal from yesterday.

Wolf toots are amazing. Best thing Ali express ever stole. A 2x with wolf toots in so much better than 1x fuckery B-tension-headaches. 1x is alright with a 2x dangler tho.

I used my bike lifting pully for the second time to do maintenance on my Bullitt. It rules to be able to work on the bike without suffering further spinal injury.
I picked a ton of mud and dirt and stuff that accumulated between the chainstays between the fender and seat tube.
I cleaned a ton of gunk off the pulley wheels of my dangler and loobed the chain. I’ve been using this Rock 'n Roll Blue stuff which proports to be their extreme formula. I like it a lot. It’s way better than the Gold stuff. It seems to last much longer without ever being gummy and gross.

Kiddo picked out the metalflake off the shelf, she definitely goes for the TaF paint. It looks amazing in the sun.

Hung some parts on a franken snow bike. Fiddled with front disc to get it to stop rubbing, sanded down the rotor, it’s still rubbing, but less. Wheel is dogshit and all the spokes are rusty and low tension. Kinda don’t care, just wanna ride it.

1x7 to 1x10 speed conversion on wife’s bike courtesy of my parts hoard.

Deore dangler, SLX shifter, 11-34 cassette with a 39t ring up front. Should be much nicer on hills than the old 14-28 freewheel.

Conversion also involved building a rear wheel around a Velocity hub. Hub was spaced at 135 but I found an axle for a 130mm hub and swapped that in, then swapped the rim over from the freewheel wheel. Somehow had the proper length spokes on hand. Butted spokes, too!

I’m quite pleased at how it all turned out.

Got my 5th pro fitting since 2017. First one on a flat bar Bikepacking bike. No bike fit has ever resulted in comfort nirvana sadly.

Went alright, fitter was the first to comment my legs are different lengths. also first to recommend my cleats be far forward instead of far rear. Also measured my butt bones and they are surprisingly narrow, been on 150mm+ saddles for years now. Guess it’s time to play some more saddle roulette.

We moved cleats up about 20mm, moved saddle back about 30mm, dropped the bars about 30mm.

One 30min ride in and my knee doesn’t seem to be acting up so that’s positive. Still not in the utopia of comfort I’m always chasing though.

possibly weird question, but where do you carry your wallet?

Alternate between both back pockets but it’s really slim. Also I don’t leave the house every day anymore wearing real pants so it often gets thrown in a bike bag.

I DO always cross my right leg on top of my left when I sit. I have less flexibility in my right hip (external rotation) and also walk a little more duck foot with my right.

I know most people do have a leg length discrepancy (as well as different sized feet), but I remember getting a fit a decade ago and being told I had different length legs and adjusting my fit around that. A few weeks later, was in the car on a long drive and instinctively took my wallet out of my back pocket and had a lightbulb moment. A month or so later and the discrepancy was pretty negligible.

All of which is to say, doesn’t entirely sound like the case here, but something to keep in mind. The leg crossing and duck-footedness sound like they’re probably symptoms of the leg length rather than causes imo.

Swapped in new jockey wheels after the lower shit its bearings out on a ride. Pulled out the remaining few balls and rode it 20 miles home like it was a really loose bushing.

I’ve never even thought about my jockey wheels before, I thought they lasted forever.

That was how I learned that SRAM uses ball bearings. I was used to the Shinano bushings that never seize.
