What did you do to your crosscheck today?



Drilled and droppered and suspension forked for the 10yo. 27.5 front wheel is a placeholder for rebuilding the stock front 26 with boost.
Still dithering better cranks and flat bar too.

i have some xx1 cranks but they may be too long for child

Laced up a set of used hubs to some PEES rims for future commuting use.

Giant in all their wisdom decided to make a 26+ kids bike with with boost 141 rear and an 83mm bottom bracket. The child has like a 24” waist! Ludicrous Q factor for a kid, and I have no compatible cranks/bb. So the stock cranks stay.

Dude crushed it on 4 miles of trail today, so it probably doesn’t matter too much. Still dialing in very low fork pressure.

Inner freehub bearing of dt 3 pawl freehub. Using Park grease makes them silent although I’m sure it’s too thick. No chain lube on hand though

Needed to use a file to get my harbor freight snap ring pliers to fit.

Finished building the rear PEES wheel yesterday. The last five wheels I’ve built up (or rebuilt) have gone very smoothly and that’s nice because for a while it felt like I was getting worse and that was very not motivating. Buying the Wheel Fanatyk tensiometer however long ago was very much a luxury purchase, but I think it’s also made the process better and more smooth.

I still think it’s hilarious that the model number and label on the 533d rims made it through whatever DT Swiss process/review. Somebody there be trollin. Seems to be a pretty decent rim for $45 tho.

I have the 26” version on the funny wee bike, the rim joint can be tough for tubeless soup to seal up.

These wheels are getting tubes, but that’s good to know for future dithering.

I dropped the bars and raised the seat a bit on my commuter. Felt pretty decent on the way in to work this morning.

Finally did some more work on a 70s Casati Italian bike I swapped a pre-trek lemond for. The old 7 speed group has stupid 53/44 crankset that I swapped for a Bikin Green 46/30 (lol) crankset. Turns out that the chainring spacing is too narrow for a 7s chain and it gets caught. Swapped it out for a 9s and rode it up the hill outside my house.

Bike just needs some bar wrap and new shoes and I can ride it once or twice before moving it along. Hoping I can replace the 23s with 25s but I’ll have to deflate tire to remove as it hits the FD band clamp.

All the components came from the lemond, hence Shimano on an Italian road bike. Photo of the Casati is out of date.

Bled the rear brake, then installed the front using the correct tools. I tried really hard to make a nice cut and install the barb correctly, it was all good until I looked at the little tray on my work stand

Disassembled and cleaned the Vaya Travel to put it back in the case.

Rode Snowaguchi, then put it back on the place of honor, on the top level of the bike rack in my foyer.

cabled the dangler, 2 chainz, hung a rear brake lever on, still waiting on the xxl cable for that. Will probably do a few bar swaps before settling on something, may need a bigger chainring. New chairpole not carbon so I can mount a stem and passenger handlebars on it. sooooo close!

I swapped the pedals on Ash’s bike and they rode it around a bunch and didn’t even notice lol.
