Swapped out some BB7s for post-mount growtacs on one bike. Re-positioned the shifters and rewrapped batrape on the Open. Poked some new bearings into the Open. So easy to just bash the old bearings out now with the screw-in BB. Swapped cassettes on the F700 and retuned the 9 speed NOS grip-shifting. Its being weirdly fussy.
Still have to snot 3 bearings out of my hope freewheel so I can transfer it onto an existing wheel.
Ive been using the flatmount ones for well over a year already. There are a few people here who are using them. Im a big fan. Anything is better than draggy sram hydros tho.
I finally ripped the emergency randonneuse apart to wedge disc brakes on. Annoyingly, I don’t think I can fit one of my pairs of Hayes CX-5(?) into the rear triangle of the thing, so now everything is briefly stopped while I ponder post-mount seat-stay lyfe or sacrificing my pair of flat-mount spyres for this machine.
(no, hydraulic is not an option. These ain’t mtbs and hydraulic di2 brifters are, except for that one hideous model, pretty damn expensive for someone on a limited income.)
After getting caught up in 2 month long QC issues then putting it off for another month I finally built my replacement Nextie wheel for my fussie after blowing up a Hunt wheel on Apex Mountain in the Front Range last winter. This thang is liiiiiiiiiight. Now I just gotta lube the TRP pistons, bleed the brakes, put on new rotors, and my fussie will be back in action.
It’s kind of annoying that my most specialized bike is the most expensive, most fussy, and least ridden, but every time I go for a big day on my Murmur I’m happy I have it.
Building up the “new” hungry gatherer skeleton after it’s been sitting for a couple of years and damn, the long pull Tektro MD-U511 does not work in the rear. That’s a real day ruiner.
No clue why the rear adapter is marked “F6” and not “R160” like all their photos. TRP only has one rear FM adapter and this is it.
Starting work on the Jack Taylor tandem, which turns 50 this July.
Leather saddles are shot so I pulled them off to replace with some from my stash. But nooooo these old clamps have got to go. But then also the stoker stem is integrated into the clamp. Ugh there goes $100 in seatposts and a stoker stem. Sigh.
Scrounged a second hand freehub from my LBS cos removal of my cassette was touch n go last time. Freehub surface was very slotted. Found a tutorial online and got new bearings for the donor freehub. Took the old freehub off and noticed it was a completely different internal bore… Figured it would be like Tune where you just poke in larger or smaller bearings to suit the axel size. Wrong. Should have done my research. A hope pro 2 is not a hope pro 2 EVO. I guess I can upgrade to thru axle if I ever get a second thru axle bike. Probably just need end caps. Anyway, the cassette came off easy peasy this time as I lubed it heaps when replacing it previous. Much ado about nothing. Still, I learnt all about Hope hub internals.
