What did you do to your crosscheck today?

ok that validates a vague memory of skinwall referring to the casing skin and not the Caucasian fleshy colour, and it makes sense that there’s a categorical difference between that and a true gumwall

Did a bike fit with a person who’s also a PT. Went well. Main takeaways were that my saddle can come forward and up, my feet should be farther out, and my saddle should be narrower. I’ve almost certainly been riding too stretched out on every bike ever.

We talked about crank length and bar width. He feels the short crank/narrow bar thing is a fad and only applicable to pros in specific circumstances and is really only beneficial for reducing frontal area. He wants me on 172.5s (or even 175 if I wanted) and 40-42cm bars.

We talked about my next bike and he feels the size I’d already picked out was best.

Feels good that my understanding of how I fit on a bike is mostly correct. Long seatpost and short stem is the life for me. And, increasingly as I get older, more and more Rustystack.

The fit guy made several comments about my abnormally long femurs. My long legs are why I was always afraid to move my saddle forward. Because of KOPS and all. But he said folks with long femurs got a pass when it comes to that because otherwise it would be impossible to fit them everywhere else.

I too have insanely long legs. One of my decent bike fits is a zero offset seatpost.

5’9" with a 74cm saddle to crank spindle

I am also 6’ even and I ride a 56 with a 75cm saddle height.
I buy pants with a 32 inch inseam.

I’m 6’ with an almost 79 cm saddle height.

I was chatting with someone at the LBS recently about an app that pairs up bike riders by PBH/saddle height. Might be useful!

1 degree of STA is equal to about 1cm around our saddle height

Short cranks may be fad-ish, but narrow bars/flat forearms are definitely faster if that’s what you’re going for.

You mean ‘190cm people riding 155mm cranks’? Sure.

But finally bikes are getting cranks somewhat proportional to rider height, and I think that’s here to stay.

Yeah - I don’t mean to lump in the “shorter riders finally have proportionate cranks” as part of any fad, that’s a legit positive development.

if you’re measuring along the seat tube it shouldn’t matter, right?

1 degree of seat tube change is equal to 1cm change in setback
This is relevant for short cranks and narrow bars

did a (not quite) tarck century gravel ride in JT park with a fairly loaded bike on 155s and definitely felt the bias toward my glutes, which I want. I’ve struggled with getting enough setback without closing off hip angle and this helps. I’m 172cm tall
