What did you do to your crosscheck today?

Whatever happened to the zap group buy thing? Did anyone build a bike with it?

Mine is on the list. I need to finish rewiring the pair of d-a 7970 levers I set aside for it first. I’ll probably do it this fall when I’m on no-bike rest for 3 months and won’t be able to find so many excuses not to do framebuilding.

Swapped bars, trimmed housing and cables, and rode it

Back to singlespeed… again

Honestly, they probably suck. I don’t have other cable discs to compare to, but they take a lot of grab to stop.

A friend of mine who is not on this forum did

Replaced the last of the components that came with the ā€œfreeā€ bike. The Tektro 340 levers feel nicer than the vintage Shimano 105 1050 series green gunmetal colored brake levers from before. Also drilled and reamed the head tube that was only partially finished so now I can insert the stem another inch or so. Best part is I did this after the kids went to bed, which mean my body must be catching up on sleep if I had the energy to do anything other than crash after their bedtime.

Pretty sure I routed the brake cables wrong but c’est la vie. First time using these little jagwire brake cable ex flex extenders into the hoods. They seem nice I guess? Not sure I’ll ride this bike enough to ever need to replace the housing or the bar tape but I get the gist.

Looking forward to wrapping the bars and taking it out for a spin. And then being happy that I started my #bikelife after fat tires, indexed shifting, and disc brakes were the norm.

Are you running 10 or 11 speed? My X9 one on my road bikes clutch was crapping out today, jamming in forward position.

I built mine up and distributed all the groups. I had it on two different bikes and it’s still waiting for just the right bike. Just like the sram 2 axis brake levers.

Repacked my oldest rear hub today; Shimano Deore M615. Impressed at how good the cones look after ~10 years/20,000 miles with lots of rain, dust, and full-submersion at least three times.

This wheelset has been through three pairs of rims and is on it’s fourth bike. I wonder how long the hubs and spokes/nipples will go?

Upgraded my son’s bike to sram 10 speed. I left the old front DR and shifter on for now. We are considering going 1x so I just left it on for now

after True Confessing that i haven’t done anything to any bikes this year, i replaced the brakes on my singlespeed MTB. the XT brakes on that thing leaked from day one (i bought it used). now the new ones (M8100 i think) seem lovely.

i will ride this bike soon. it’s lighter than my road bike.

also, i learned you can use a bunch of BDSM metaphors to describe setting up a brake. see as follows:
internally routed rear brake was easy, i just slammed that hose into the hole by the bb area and forced it all the way up through the gut so hard it it popped out by the head tube. it didn’t even drip any juices along the way. i did forget to plug the bottom, though. then i bled it and it spewed out all over the driveway. i rode it hard and it squealed a bit but then it finally shut up. damn that thing got the kung fu grip now, though. anyways, it’s back in the garage on a hook waiting for me to ride it again.
