I finally investigated the creaking that my Haro has been experiencing for the last couple of months. It made occasional noises riding but it was most prominent when I was just wheeling it around in and out of the office/house.
Dropped the fork and the lower headset bearing came out in pieces - all the parts were there and in good shape, just dry of grease and the inner race, seal, and balls dropped out with the fork when the outer race stayed put in the headset.
I put the bearing back together and demoted it to live in the upper part of the headset.
Gave all the bikes that have been ridden lately a polish and lube while I was at it.
I found a nearly complete Norco roadie in hard rubbish last week. ~2018, looks to be the last year before they went to discs. Stripped the busted Sora off it, then it looked like this.
Because of reasons I have shitloads of parts, so I thought I’d see if I could build this up without spending anything. I nearly got there too, only had to buy an outer gear cable cos it needs a full run.
Built new wheels for commuter. Old rims were super scooped out and the hubs were pretty worn out too. Sun CR18 rims, DH-3N72 front hub, rear hub from a used shop, might be a 1st gen xtr? Old 36h hubs are hard to find!
Kona got a big basket. I love this bike so much. This basket takes like 5min to take on and off so it’s already been off and back on a couple times. I like it without but I got crap to haul.
Threw on the new XT cranks in 160mm onto DJ. Did this just now in living room coz AC, but stoked to see how it feels vs the 175 old XTs I had on there because that’s what I had. It is new XT with last gen chainring, so (obviously) fuck off google AI saying the very obviously same interface of new xt wouldn’t work with previous version chainring.
Finally got the Igorfenders to play nicely with the road bike. Had to swap the black TRP brakes for Shimano, now not so matchy but the calipers just work better with the fenders.
