What did you do to your crosscheck today?

isn’t that a fender light?

Only if you mount it on the fender.

It’s lighting the fender, that’s for sure!

Did you get that bag from me?

I finally found it within myself to put in the work to get ye olde Kogswell back on the road. I only had to go to two bike shops, one of them twice.

I really wanted to use my sweet sweet vintage Salsa stem, but this absurd VO stem that I found my stem bin allows me to use the headset mounted hanger. There may or may not be enough steerer inside that stem. PO chopped it within an inch of its life.

FWIW, my cantilever experience improved tremendously when I got rid of my headset-mounted cable stops. Fork mounted stops are the way atmo.

Yeah, two of those bike shop trips were looking for a crown mounted stop. No dice, gotta get together with @Elliott to snag one, but I had one evening to get this thing roadworthy before our trip to Wisconsin. It’s gonna stay in Wisconsin to be my old man country road toodler so I probably won’t be changing anything about it any time soon.

Cleaned the chains on some bikes (wiped them with a shop towel sprayed with WD40) and weighed the itty bitty. It weighs a very not itty bitty 57 lbs without (easily removable) bags or tools/pump/tube/etc, 32.4 of that on the front wheel. It would probably be mid-30s without all the electric bits.

After putting it off due to vanity I finally put this EThirteen 12 speed 9-50 cassette back on my Stooge Rambler, instead of the 9-46 11 speed cassette that was on there. I really don’t like the look of the slate grey granny gears of the EThirteen cassette (why didn’t I just get black or silver or even gold???) and I especially don’t like the giant cage of the Deore dangler, but A) I can’t see it while I’m riding and B) the gears are perfectly spaced on that 12 speed cassette. No stupid 15-18 jump, and I don’t hate the 50t 1st gear when riding up real dumb stuff.

No im pretty sure this came straight from alpine luddites

Why pay big bucks for a Mac Ride when four zip ties, a cut up koozie and a parts bin saddle gives like 95% of it?

Yo dog…

Took all the electric bits off the itty bitty over the weekend and put on a normal crank and brake levers. It’s fun but not giving me enough of it in electric mode. To be determined is if/when it gets ridden now, ends up getting sold/parted out, or a secret third thing (sits around for 6-12 months while I do nothing to sell it and then it gets donated).

You could sell it to me and then I’ll do the third thing.

I’ll keep that in mind. You have been my best customer.

I test fit a kickstand on Ro’s bigger bike. Gotta chop the legs but Roli had fun riding his new bike”exercise bike”.

Someone talk to me about using v brakes and road levers. I’m seeing conflicting information

Road levers don’t pull enough cable for vbrakes so people use these

The alternative to “standard” v-brakes and travel agents would be mini-v’s. There are the nice/pricey TRP ones (not sure if made anymore? CX9 or CX8.4), and Tektro makes a couple cheapies that just need better pads to be perfectly fine.

I have travel agents on my VO from sensah to some vees, work great, easy to set up.
