What did you do to your crosscheck today?

My friend’s girlfriend has this sick Handsome mixte that the previous owner apparently rode across the country. It had some strange parts choices which made her not like it very much so we zhuzhed it up today.

We took off the bullhorn bars and swapped them to VO Tourist (#IgorMentioned). The back brake was a V brake for some reason so we swapped it to a Tektro Oryx. She never uses the FD so we took that off and kept the 36t middle for 1x fun. And a 9 speed Microshift trigger shifter ties it all together. It’s sick even if it basically has pedal overlap.

I’ve been cleaning up mine and going through my tire stash in preparation for the track opening soon. I didn’t get a chance to race (or even ride much) last year with everything going on but this year looks to be pretty clear. I’m constantly talking myself out of ordering a Lairdframe though, so we’ll see how long I can hold out.

not that far from downtube overlap!

and then to still have a 10mm stem on it

Swapped the frame on my crapper wannabe tracklocross thang.

Running some klites and dyno. Its not getting any prettier… had to walk up the hill home tonight cos chain was too long for my low ratio. Shortened it.

Before I zoomed in a bit more I thought the logo on the DT read “Brown Jesus”

Rode the new bike to work. I need to adjust the shifting, probably swap the C13 for my C15 (and deal with the weight), maybe a longer stem or move it up a spacer.

I’m not sure I can deal with the way the frame bag fits but I like the bag and I own it!

over the last week I built a new set of 700c wheels for my super pro. SP and bitex laced to knight rims that I got for way cheap.

and then I put them on my bike. front hub was 15x100 (not sure why I bought that. I think because it was cheap?) so I was like “oh I’ll just get a shim and it’ll be easy”. but then I had to Dremel out the lips above the axle on the fork because they were designed for 12mm and not 15mm. they were already kinda fucked up but the Dremel bit I was using liked to walk so it’s definitely rattier now. here’s a progress pic

and then I had to move both my dynamo lights because the tire clearance wasn’t enough going from 650x47 to 700x45.

used a cooked disc brake pad to bump the mount for the rear light up a smidge

and got a longer bolt so I could bump out the front light and slide it up a bit

and I put gears back on it

here’s a shitty basement picture. also put new brake pads on.

finished it last night at 8:30 and then woke up at 5:40 to ride a taco bell century on it. bed the brakes on the way over to the start.

new lbs installed some connectors for the rear light because I am an anxious mess

found an octane cambium and matching tape for new nitto rando bars. the old bars were 38cm! no wonder my upper back has been all scrunched up.

I couldn’t deal with the rise and the weight so I took the Turdly sunrise bars off my commuter and put on the Ritchey Kyote and a 70mm stem.

Off road fixed gearing has not been kind to my bike so the plan is to take all the drivetrain related bolts off and slathering them in Loctite 290.

Installed 50mm Pathfinders. Each tire was ~80g heavier than advertised (640g each per my scale).

They feel sluggish but really smooth, even at 40psi. Only took a lap around my neighborhood but I don’t know how much pavement riding I’ll want to do on these. Hopefully they feel better off road.

Bike looks sick AF though

What is that like 12% heavier than advertised? That’s a pretty big difference.

About 10%. Published weight is 580g I just can’t do math.

I did a road ride on them today. They roll really nicely but damn are they heavy.
