Started riding on a Jamis and never thought I would be so happy with being on one again.
the wood plane got me
My collection of sweet Tarck memes is breaking my hard drive
Iām fighting lots of urges to buy one of these
Itās a size smaller than ideal, but it was a mega deal. Could maybe use taller bars or a smaller rear cog, but itāll do for as it is for now
The new bmx bike is way faster than I remember 00s bikes feeling
Put some parts on the black mountain cycles frame. Picked up some wheels with 5500 hubs. I like the little detail of color from that series. Marathon tires and these super tall bars. Still looking for a jandd extreme front rack. I love the bright red frame color. I donāt usually get brightly colored bikes. Put some forest green cages on it for a weird color mix.
The XXL was what I was looking for, too. After shopping around, I understood why my neighbor races the cruiser class.
Might want to check out os20. Donāt know exact numbers, but theyāre a class bike with slightly bigger wheels. Pretty close to a 22" wheel
I rode my MTB today and it was not riding well so I came home and:
- Cleaned the chain
- Adjusted the saddle height
- Swapped pedals
- Looked at the pressure in the newly serviced rear shock. I was shocked to see it was 50psi. No wonder I was smacking pedals left and right. Fiddled with that for way too long.
- Looked at replacing the DVO shock that apparently is known to loose air and as soon as I saw prices for a replacement decided I can pump it up more frequently.
Cruiser class seems hard. Thereās no real split like Novice/Intermediate/Expert, itās just a bunch of 40+ factory dads that are fast as fuck
A workmate gave me a 150 mm rock shock rekon so i thought id swap it for the one on my SC Tallboy and put the Tallboys 130 mm one on my wifes ebike. I did that friday night. Saturday we did a ride. The ebike doesnāt look too stupid. Sunday I took the 27.5 knobby wheel off my 96 DBR and replaced it with a 26 inch wheel with less aggressive tread. Put a 180 mm disc on it. Put a 1.5 inch slick on the back wheel. Swapped the chainring order. Now running 36 and 40 tooth 1x deckas. Removed the crank, stem and bars off the frame that I briefly entertained as being my tracklocross frame. Today I volunteered at my coop for 3 hours fixing bikes. Bled a couple of brakes, swapped a munted BB. Helped a few other vollies with stuff.
Mosquito at the coop just swapping parts from one guys bike to another.
Today I went to change out my 18t coaster cog out for a 16t to make it a lil more ATB and a lil less MTB, and I learned that with 3" tires I need a cog with a little bit of dish for the chain to clear the tire. The 18t that Mone sent me must be the Shimano one with a little dish, versus the flat Sturmey Archer 16t I tried. Good thing these cogs are $5-10. ![]()
Tonight is the first wednesday of the month. There will be a queue down the road of financially disadvantaged people hoping to pick up a free or very cheap bike to get about on. These guys are ready to go.
godās work mosquito
The Hoo Koo E Koo has been through twice. Its funny when you see a bike around town and recognise it as one thatās been through Ekerua.
HY!
We had a fresh off the boat vollie last week who had just finished an industrial design degree. He knows practically nothing about working on bikes, but had built a crazy camping rig that attached to the down-tube of his bike and used the bike as a frame for his tent. Itās pretty crazy and actually seemed to work, in the video he shared at least. He didnt know what cantilever brakes were but with a bit of advice from a few of us he set up the Hoo Kee E brakes beautifully. He has just started work at a company here that makes automated predator traps. Just as a wind up I asked him about the different rat varieties in NZ and he didnāt know buggerall. Iād just googled them the night before so I was full of useless information. Funny. Lovely guy.
