Replaced the race saddle and hold fast knockoff pedals/straps on the fixed basketbike with a touring sale and single sided spds with a full size platform. It’s so much better, I want to ride it more than once a week now.
tires tires tires
Might actually have four bikes all with functional tires, a first in the last six or so months. The blessing and curse of tubeless is that a tire can kinda mostly suck, but also work juuuuust well enough that you keep limping it along.
Interested to see how the cycletruck handles with Big Apples instead of the no-model Kenda semi-knobbies it shipped with. I’m guessing “better”, but hopefully I’ll have more to say than that shortly. if I like these tires on the cycletruck, I might put them on the longjohn too.
tightened the steering cables on the longjohn, which is kinda alarming but also satisfying. They loosen a little with use, and particularly with using your bike as an improvsed carnival ride for a few dozen kids, ranging from 3-14 years old. For an hour. Because it’s hard to gracefully leave a school picnic when there’s a mob of kids clamoring for a ride. And because it’s fun to blast around the park with them. But yeah, kinda does a number on the steering.
bought but have not put on new bar tape for my sport touring / randonneuring bike. It’s the fun new Serfas woven stuff, but instead of feeling like patio furniture cushion fabric, this new roll literally feels like the ribbon you’d use to wrap a present, but with a sticky foam backing. I’m putting it on the bike, but estimate that it’s 50/50 that I’ll want to keep it. Who knows, maybe it’s actually grippy.
Really curious to see how you feel about the serfas tape. So many cool patterns!
The serfas tape is garbage. No stretch at all, no bandaids and barely enough to cover a normal sized drop bar.
Plus I thought it was really slippery and wore out fast
I wrapped my bars.
Hard disagree. This tape is replacing an 18 month old wrap job that had good grip and springiness, and the tape on my road bike is at least a year old.
As noted though, the tape I just got feels different, so maybe there’s a lot of variation, time will tell.
Maybe they’ve improved it over the last two years or whatever. There’s so many different styles of that tape too. I think the one you just got is the one I hated (grosgrain ribbon style). I never tried the woven Navajo rug style one.
yeah, shit. I am about to wrap shiny grosgrain. Previously I’d used the rough woven stuff. This is like late 2000’s Fixik all over again - three different products sold in the same box.
Ah well, if it totally sucks I’ll use it to line the box on my big cargo bike and pay more attention to the fabric, not just the pretty pretty pattern next time.
This is my experience with it, I have the woven tape. Wrapping it was annoying, couldn’t avoid creases on the tight compact bar bends.
Can’t speak to durability, but it is slippery.
Cleaned the cross bike and got some gritty shit out of the rear disc caliper. Dithered with the rear rack on the basketbike.
Took off the cranks on my basket bike and added a spacer to the bb so the crank would stop rubbing on the chainstay.
Put a cheapo dropper post on the Bullitt. Time to get dad-rad on it while toting child around.
Dropper on the cargo bike is clutch.
dropper would be nice for a longtail, but step through frame is pretty great too.
Swapped shakes, crank and brakes on the roadie. That bike is so light (like only 20lb!). Stoked to ride it again.
Got the cheap Shimano hydros for the bikepacking bike and put them on. Feels pretty good.
New bar tape.
Solidly in the “like but don’t love” category. The colors are so perfect for this bike, but i really wish it was a fade instead of a hard edged color transition.
oh well. i tend to destroy bartape so fast anyways.
Also got the tandem back together post-ankle sprain and futzed around a little with the new/old burley tandem.
how’s the beaded cable housing working for you?
i love it. it’s the jagwire kit. i have it on everything but the tandem. it’s easy to install and it makes really tight radius bends that work well on all the weird turns that modern bikes seem to have now.
i like it well enough that i bought it at retail price after i got out of the bike mines
and it’s nice that i never need to buy new housing
The love it or hate it reaction people have makes me think you kinda have to know what you’re doing when installing it
