Why do you say this? I was thinking about getting those because I want to use a QR front wheel on my lockup bike and I prefer to lock the rear wheel and my rear wheel already uses hex bolts.
I forgot to add this one earlier- Park crank puller. some of the threads on that part that screws into the crank have broken off just from banging around in my tool box. Honestly I’m not very impressed with the quality of the park tools that I have.
I like hex key skewers more than qrs and i wish that new hubs had them instead of qrs as an option. IMO they look classier than QRs and they deter people from fucking with your bike and/ or opportunistic theft.
You can clean up your crank puller threads in a minute or so with a tap and die set. I honestly think all serious bike geeks should have T+D sets – it’s endlessly handy to be able to clean up threads and rethread holes. But yeah, I keep the threads on my crank puller wrapped with electrical tape when I’m not using it. Something like that has a lot more mass than a little bolt and its threads will tend to get damaged more easily from ordinary shop wear.

Sora groupset and Formula hubs.
Stamped cogs.
what is there not to like about formulas?
i had some of those errebi double straps that just plain fell apart in their first winter
+1 on the san marco ponza, or -1, or whatever, i got one a used one for dirt cheap, but it sucks ass.
fuck yes. errebi doubles got eaten by my mks sylvann tracks. i got so pissed and seriously just wanted to like breakdown as to how frustrated they made me. especially paying 70ish bucks for them.
I’ve never met or talked to anyone else that uses MKS doubles. I’ve had mine for over a year and I got them on a set of pedals from a guy that had also used them for over a year. This is their 3rd winter and they’re still fucking beastly.
Surly track hubs - because nothing helps you appreciate the maintenance-free fixed gear lifestyle like having to check that your rear hub hasn’t inexplicably tightened down and destroyed your bearings once a week. Someone please steal my wheelset.
I actually LOVE my surly hubs. Ive only had the cone loosening issue once in at least a year
Did you do something wacky to them, like loctite-ing the cones or something? I have some totally beat up Surly hubs that I bought off someone on BF long ago which have been fine, which is the reason I splurged on non-Forumulas. I would be happy to only have them loosen - it’s when I think my chain is too tight and then realize, no, the cones are crushing the bearings, that I curse their name.
I actually had to send them back once after the first set I got broke 4 locknuts in a month (including one that died as I was going down a steep hill)… maybe just the black ones are cursed.
Anyway, I still want someone to explain to me what’s wrong with aluminum handlebars. That’s like the worst part you’ve ever used being “pedals” or “wheels,” or any other ubiquitous component like that.

Are we talking about the same thing? I’m talking about those pieces of garbage that you buy aftermarket and just replace your QR’s with. I’d find them on GIS, but I’m afraid that their shitty quality would cause my browser to crash or something.
And amen to Deda bar tape. Total crap. Bonechilling apparently knows nothing about bicycles.
Whatever dorks. I’ve been using Deda tape on my track bike for two years without incident. Anyway, get used to using Deda, because Cinelli tape just jumped up $4 per-pack from Quality.
i heart my performance century shorts.
i rode a century in them.
You rode a century? No offense dude, but you don’t strike me as the type to go out and ride a century.
Ditto that, it seems to hold up better after repeated drenching/long rain rides than anything else. Planet Bike tape works ok but the Deda definitely looks/feels better at the end of the season.
