You stupid fucking frat boy piece of shit

If the cops are anything like the ones here in Indianapolis, they won’t do shit, even when you find the car for them because they are too fucking fat and lazy to do their damn job. Even when you show them pictures of the vehicular damage.

Fuck the police.

Two cents, or maybe three:

–From way back in this thread somewhere: being seen by a Dr. or EMT also serves the purpose of generating very real and admissible evidence of your injury. There’s probably no better way to document it than a written physical exam (yes, I’m in the health bidness, not the law bidness).

–Just about every time I’ve done or almost done something completely stupid in traffic (in a cage or not), it’s been about ‘teaching a lesson.’ At least in my rational moments, I hold to the idea that this angle is a clear indicator of projecting my own shit on someone else–nobody’s gonna learn anything from the behavior that follows, unless it’s me…

Been in a very similar situation. Had a guy bump me from behind at a light. We exchanged words. As we pulled away, he pulled around on my right in a turn lane, opened his door and slammed it into me and my bike. If I had crashed, I would have been under the car behind me. I didn’t go down and he took off onto the freeway. I called the cops and when they came I gave them a description of him, his car and his plate number. The gave no shits, told me they’d look into it and I never heard anything.

Dude attempts to seriously injure me with a deadly weapon (or so it is called when people hit cops with their cars) but since there was no damage, they didn’t do anything.

Yeah, I called the cops, but the guy was gone before I could get a plate or description, so they couldn’t do anything. I went to the station to file a report anyway, they wrote some shit down and said a report would be ready in 7-10 days, but that’s about all I could do.

I’m just happy I only have a small bruise; if he had to get away, I’m glad that at least I could get away, too.

I don’t trust the cops to do anything (same as anybody else) so that’s why I’m glad I have the name of a good lawyer. Won’t help me in this case, but I’ve got friends that he’s helped before, so in the future, if the stars are properly aligned I’ll be able to get some justice.

Is this the “hit” thread? Is there anyone who has received a settlement from a wreck? Drivers fault/hospital visit+phys therapy? I’m in that situation and looking for advice.

I received a settlement+med bills, etc when I got hit. Took almost a year to get it. Had to be all done with my dr visits to get it, since in receiving it i signed off saying they weren’t liable for any future visits to the dr.

fuckers.
:frowning:

I’m glad you’re ok though, tiny fish.

I hate this thread/threads like it.

this thread makes me sad and makes me want to wear vibrant colors and put shiny stickers on everything I own.

I am dumbfounded that people think that kid slamming his face into a parked car wasn’t justice. At the very least he was attempting assault with a deadly weapon (a 3000lb + weapon), I’d go so far as to say attempted murder. IMO he got off easy (unless he died, then he broke even)

drives me crazy to hear stories of bikers(well, ANYONE really. I just find bicyclists to be particularly vulnerable) being attacked for no reason. Luckily people seem to be too chicken shit here in suburbia to attempt anything like that.

Get a lawyer. A bike-specific lawyer if you can. It’ll take a long time. It took my friend about a year to get a settlement from her first accident and is still waiting on the last two (which got progressively worse). She’s still out and riding in the meantime.

Waiting sucks and paying a lawyer sucks, but it’s well worth it.

I was hit, got bike lawyer, she took care of it. took awhile, but it was done

i’ll post the details when it happens. i think im going to go w/o the lawyer, or try to talk to my tort lawyer neighbor for a free consultation, then see.

hard to get full lawyerin’ for free…

asking people to do their job for free is kind of a dick move.

I don’t think you heard me:

without going into specifics, he did all the lawyering for our street v. the city re: utilities for a few bottles of wine and cookies. plus respect from everyone. he’s asked me several times if i need a lawyer, talk to him first. guy is a fred commuter and all around pretty ok. except when he is blasting stevie ray vaughn or some other classic rock icon loud enough for us to hear it 3 doors down. which, in itself is kind of awesme, but SRV, rite?

First fifteen minutes is always free.

Irony: when my girl got doored her car insurance took care of it within a week. All doctor bills paid and she had a check to cover a new bike to replace a bike that i mostly assembled from my parts bin.

RadioLab had an utterly amazing story of love and recovery after a bicyclist was hit by a truck. I was at work listening to this doing ads for these lame ass commercially available off brand Jell-O shots with tacky rainbows and stars and shit, the most douchbaggy concepts you could imagine, with tears streaming down my eyes praying that nobody walked by to question what the hell was wrong with me.

It’s an hour long episode and while the last half of the episode features that story the whole podcast (and the whole of RadioLab in general) is worth a listen.

It’s called Lost and Found: http://www.radiolab.org/2011/jan/25/
