These were some of the cargo bikes I saw in norway
metro cargo trike is great, the rest are … fine? I want to see more heavy utility cargo bikes in the US. We kinda tap out at Bullitt size
Wow, the kid canopy on the R&M looks horrible and claustrophobic to be inside! Those poor kids!
it’s kind of a stretch to call this a folding bike when the handlebars are the only part that folds down. the entire package is the same length just not as high
It is a stretch but tern stands by it. The bars going down are helpful for storage and transport. It’s also the closest thing to an actual folding electric bike that id feel comfortable using.
I don’t know how it is in puget sound, but in Vancouver (BC) the Tern GSD has a more loyal following that any other mid drive e-bike. The Radwagon likely is more common due to price, but I read about folks who’ve paid to upgrade to the GSD. It could be in part to the distribution on why the GSD has beat some other options, so take this with that grain of salt.
Today I saw the first urban arrow I’ve seen that looks like it’s had any fucks ridden out of it.
Also the first I’ve seen with an aftermarket part, the bars in this case.
I’m out on the clyde doing a farmers market run and my rear brake is dragging on the tire, the front brake is horrendously loud from spilling sealant on the rim, and I forgot a multi tool. At least I got my strawberries
The GSD is a fuckin nifty machine and I think about 80% of the non-radwagon family bikers are on terns in the Puget sound. There’s a smattering of assorted long Johns as well, but the Terns are predominant.
Is there a big Tern dealer presence there? I kind feel like we’re in frontier days for cargo bikes in the US, where the first person to get them in stock can run the town for a few years
Not that I know of. Ecargo bikes are still very much ask your friends level and the Terns are really useful.
Cargo bikes are the only thing that can save the lbs at this point.
Being able to test ride these things is so important.
Not too many people are gonna drop $8000 on an Urban Arrow without riding one first.
Additionally, I think that there are a lot of people out there who might consider cargo bikes a fun and silly novelty but not really a viable form of transportation might get curious if they saw one in a shop window, go in to peek, get talked into a test ride, feel how fucking miraculous it feels to ride an e-cargo bike and be converted to the cause.
it really do be though. some day…
How so?
Have you ridden an urban arrow or other big motorized cargo bike? I’m not sure I can describe the feeling but it definitely feels like magic to be moving such a large machine with so little effort.
I mean let’s be real. Riding a cargo bike can get shitty real fast (though I’m sure there’s some story about 28c tires and 45 pounds of cat litter incoming lol). It is sick as hell to have a huge crap hauling bike that doesn’t take all day to pedal around town.
Yeah, the fully loaded battlewagon with a cumulative weight around 450 lbs is a real fuckin chore to get up the hill with the high-zoot Bosch pedal assist and not gonna happen without. I spent enough time riding around on an accoustic long tail to know that.
