Oh man, you are making me forget how I used to wonder if I was going to be able to fit my longtail on elevators at whatever job I went to next. Working from home, problem solved! lol
A Tunitas 139 bag works really well in the Benno utility tray, almost a perfect fit. Running the shoulder strap back through the tray’s mounting point at the frame kept it super solid on the ride to work this morning.
This is awesome. I wonder how it corners.
I want that but for a canoe. Pup goes in the canoe.
What a world we could have had if the auto makers hadn’t ruined everything.
I get to post in this thread now!
Do I want to just have a bag that I throw in the box up front with all my shit in it, or do I want to put on a rear rack and pannier for more organization?
Rear grocery pannier that stays on the bike can be pretty nice to drop your backpack into, without floating around in the big box or being in your kid’s personal space (on a longtail this would be a front basket)
The other killer move is if you can hang “ammo dump pouches” or similar on the back face of the cargo box where they’re easy access for the rider but not making your handlebars any weirder like a feedbag would.
I really appreciate having a place far away from curious little fingers where I can toss my little side bag. There’s really no reason not to mount a pannier rack. I mean, it’s a cargo bike, why not maximize its cargo capacity?
The back-of-box pouches/bags are indeed clutch, especially for all sorts of little stuff that would just get lost in the box.
I’ve got a rear rack and panniers for my kids stuff because they have long legs, I would like to have some little pouches like @JUGE_FREDD described. I avoided putting a rear rack on because I dislike the way a regular bike rides with them but they are invisible to me with like a combined 30lbs hanging back there.
Germany is very much not the USA but this is uplifting
@Alvz wrote about it too
I am not biking much lately but when I do, it’s usually riding my cargo e-bike to the store. Last time I did that, I had a middle-aged gentleman approach me to talk about it. He seemed concerned about being hit by a car (understandable), but he had had the revelation that he was driving to get everywhere and “that seemed stupid”. I explained that yeah you have to be cautious but also you are going to use different streets and roads on a bike than you would in a car and that seemed to light the bulb in his head. Anyway it was a nice interaction and those articles made me think of it again.
Cargo bikes ain’t cheap but as the cost of car ownership has skyrocketed alongside a mountain of overstock bike deals, it would be great to see more people dip their toes in.
i wrote about it! and we settled on a mid-ass headline for it
is there regen on the Bosch performance or similar mid drive units?
Nope. Only a thing on some of the direct drive hub motors.
Speaking of direct drive hub motors I think I’ve settled on a Grin All Axle V3 to electrify my Xtracycle Edgerunner. I was pretty set on a mid drive with torque sensing but people seem to love Grin, the 20" rear wheel is ideal for a hub drive, and these new v3 have torque sensing built in.
I really like my front All Axle hub. I’d have bought a rear if they existed back in 2020.
Are you doing the full Grin setup with a Cycle Analyst and a Phase or Baserunner?
