You're gunna hurt yourself: Carry Shit Olympics (aka the Cargo Bike thread)

First ride to farmers market with wife and kid in box. Was wondering where to park but immediately found the cargo bike parking area.

As rudy’s already raised, there’s an ecosystem of drop in boxes, some with seats, inc from the bullit brand. For what it is worth, box isn’t an issue either as you can pretty readily mod and bolt on kids seats designed for rear rack mounting (what I’ve done).

ooh tell me more.

I would like more of a stroller seat experience for my guy right now. The R&M bolt-in seats seem a little big and I don’t know how fast I could get them.

Plus you’d use them for so short a time that they wouldn’t be worth the cost. I just plopped the click in car carrier thing in my Rubbermaid tub and strapped it down with a come along.

I was thinking of using my assortment of large voile straps to keep the car seat from sliding around.

Here’s all three R&M seats:

I think that I will end up getting the two rear (forward facing) bench seat thing for when he’s a bit older. Can one DIY harnesses like that? lol.

I took a thule yepp mini designed for steerer stack mounting and bolted it to the plywood floor of pur box. I had to bodge up wooden wedge to get the angles right but was strong enough for a <2yo and was facing the rider which was great for interativity/monitoring.

Might come down to how happy you are to drill.

I am happy to drill.

Is what our setup looked like when small.

that’s excellent.

You can buy an off the self adapter for the quill mount version of a yepp mini that bolts to a box floor or get the aheadset one and do a wood wedge plus bolts like i did.

I see a few maxi for sale here but it seems like the mini is kind of perfect for this because it doesn’t have the molded plastic feet. And I like the kid handlebar.

Is this the quill adapter? Thule Yepp mini SlimFit adapter | Thule | United States

Plastic feet chop off pretty easy though, the bobike seat we use now had a pretty easy surgery.

Re the yepp mini adapter, the cargo bike adapter I was thinking of is sold as an urban arrow product.

I don’t remember it being $150 US back in 2022 though. At that pricing it might not be very cost effective.

This looks like a rad little setup for those who cargo off pavement

edit: $$$$$ tho

I would never stop hating that idler

I was thinking about chopping but also that perhaps the baby engineers know better than me. Thank you for your permission! I actually like the maxi seats more because they have neck support in the form of that tall backrest. So I’ll get one and mod.

Leg holders are just to keep legs tuckt and out of the wheel, no need when you’re in a box.

With the yepps, check minimum sizing for your passenger, we did mini principally due to sizing.

Also, IME the front is where the sleep slump is for little ones so the mini handrest doubles as sortof a headrest. Though having a high backrest seat would mean you can strap their heads to it.

Roli has been on hundreds of cargo bike rides and has fallen asleep like five times.
