You're gunna hurt yourself: Carry Shit Olympics (aka the Cargo Bike thread)

In the trailer, butter is basically the same as carrying a sandbag. i wonder if he’d be any more active in a front loader.

If your dog is relaxed on the bike, I think you could do it safely. I used to ride my (sadly deceased) 20lb dog in a wald basket on a crappy front rack. It worked because she would sit in her tote bag and stay very still.

I have a 40lb dog now and I’ve been meaning to try putting her in my clydesdale basket but she doesn’t spend much time in the city where my clydesdale lives and she’s a more nervous dog. I’ve been working on getting her to sit in a tote bag like my old dog but she’s not into it.

is that Carrie? interested in that one also

yeah. plan would be to rent it for <6 months until wife gets too sick of her new 3+ hour round trip commute.
I know someone who is planning to sell one in PNW, but the logistics of getting it back to SF other than riding it there are complicated and expensive. It adds at least a bong to drive up and uhaul it back.

Sounds like it’s time for an e-cargo bike tour down the coast!

feels like we could put together a relay without too much effort

I love this idea so much… bike delivery with a century or so per rider.

does each rider toss a (folding) bike in the cargo area so they can then ride back to their start point so it’s a self supported relay?

When I sold my xtra I rode it to the handover with a brompton strapped to it and then rode home.

That should do it

I carry close to 200lbs in my r&m cargo every once in a while (wife and baby to and from farmers market).

Eventually they’ll sell

I sold a bike and I brought it over on the omnium

ok, so did a bunch of test rides. (un)fortunately the Carrie was still really huge

and i wasn’t impressed with the cargo capacity of the box. seemed better for kids and less good for dog.
I also had pretty extreme toe overlap with the box/linkage/kickstand which is going to be a non-starter:

I think it’ll be fine to rent for a month or two until we figure out a longer term solution but i do not think that i will be buying one. The handling was very weird too. i don’t think it’d be easier to get onto the ferry vs regular bike and trailer.

Also tried more powerful regular bikes like this R&M which felt really dorky and i did not like the suspension fork

This Gazelle was actually my favorite. pretty sporty but upright riding position. I was expecting to hate it bc Dutch bike but it really moved.

Realistically they were all out of my price range and I should just suck it up and rent the box bike or take him on the trailer with my regular bike for now.

What two leg kickstand do I get ?

Assuming somewhat normal bike, an Ursus in whatever weight rating and mounting is most suitable?

Ty

Did this place have the full suspension R&M cargo bike for you to try?

If the Carrie is too big then the load or packster or whatever would be even worse

Maybe go up to Vancouver and get a Muli before the tariffs hit

Oh yeah I discounted the “too big” part. I mean, the box ain’t gonna get bigger on a smaller bike.
